It also means there is more opportunity in more domains than folks realize. The performance of the AI agent layer will be a real differentiator in the medium term. It opens up the door for platform disruption all over the metaphorical show.

The next round changes the core structure- it embeds policy checks, it has better APIs for exploration, and it asks the LLM to do almost nothing but coordinate and explore. Which it’s quite good at!

The first round of this was all LLM maximalist. Tools that mimic exactly what people do (exec!). Including not being able to correct bad input until later in the game (bad syntax? Invent a library? Find out at test or runtime!). It’s a miracle they work as well as they do.

This would have taken days to do with IaC, and would have required a complete rebuild of the infrastructure. Or weeks, trying to import the state and match it to the structure. Either way, such a pain that you wouldn't even conceive of it.

- The baseline to start automating how the application evolves - updating with new versions, scaling horizontally, etc.
- The ability to ask security and architecture questions about the infrastructure, and on-board new folks by getting summaries of the current state of the system.

They had:

- A complete map of what they had done in AWS
- The ability to rebuild that infrastructure from scratch if needed (just 'duplicate' the infrastructure and apply the new change set)
