Successive governments have failed on social care. It’s not a shortage of good ideas that’s the problem, but a shortage of good politics.

Today that changes with Louise Casey.

Britain has a social care crisis. Here’s how we’ll work together to fix it 👇🏻

So it turns out they spent £715 million on sending a grand total of FOUR volunteers to Rwanda.

For comparison, this is more than you could expect to spend on building an entire brand new hospital in the UK
In July, I FOI'd the Home Office for the full breakdown of spending on the Rwanda scheme

I was refused because the government planned to publish the data in future, and today is the day. These numbers are in millions

It's astonishing in how many areas the last government's response to difficult problems was just to abandon governing: to stop processing asylum claims, stop setting realistic budgets, ignore critical warnings from the prison system, and ultimately scuttle the ship by bringing forward the election.
This is what the increase in decisions and interviews following the election looks like. The drop off in May, June and July was because the Illegal Migration Act had prevented officials from processing any claims. The new government undid that, getting the system going again.

This is basically exactly the same agenda that just got them thrashed at the last election by Labour.
Kemi Badenoch’s first attempt to win back support from Reform & Labour by pledging Tories would👇🏼
- review all immigration law & treaties including ECHR and HRA
- bring in numerical cap on immigration
- publish all data on costs and benefits (1/2)

Kemi Badenoch doesn’t seem to understand how many (real) people who voted in July would actually be really annoyed about another election.

I suspect her Party workers and fundraisers would also be less than impressed.
Badenoch mentioning the election petition at PMQs today advert to her greatest problem: she is a serially online politician, shaped by many of the mores of the online right. It can make her seem eccentric.

Here are the tractors blockading the streets of Whitehall in March this year. They were protesting - you really couldn't make this up - Badenoch's trade policies. 😂
