My uninformed read is that the government assumed that rolling in behind the EHRC guidance was the best means of making the issue go away and upon discovering it did not do that, has had no Plan B.

This is a wonderful example of how BBC's treatment of balance goes wrong. 3 opinions, 3 sides, job done right? Well no, you're not informing the reader that legal experts think the case is incredibly likely to fail and is a SLAPP, regardless of what Larry thinks.

Yup! Definitely Starmer’s fault. If only the government would get out of the way and let the private sector run things (although in this case ‘private sector’ mostly means ‘other governments’)

Fraser, she's just had to send two weeks slowly disowning a deportation policy that she had clearly never read, would have totally fucked the economy and which she eventually figured out was too mad even for Reform but sure, whatever this is all a sign of sensible economic competence

I see we're having another go at 'economic competence is going to save the Tories'. It's a truly bonkers take given... everything and the campaign had to be briefly rested a few weeks back after Kemi Badenoch did too many mad things for it to seem remotely plausible but Fraser's bringing it back!

And yet we get this. While there have definitely been cases before where the police have waited days and shouldn’t have, I really don’t think a wait of 14 hours, most of which was the middle of the night is remotely unreasonable??
