i get it's exciting to stumble onto entire zones unexpectedly, but at a certain point, you're kinda just scraping against every wall and ceiling to see which ones are actually passageways, and it's kinda tedious
otherwise, excellent game

SUIT FOR HIRE
just an absolute banger of an arcade-action game - combat's got an excellent flow and rewards both speed and precision satisfyingly, and the levels are varied and memorable (even if they're mostly just cribbing from john wick's homework)

CAPUT MORTUM
played the demo during nextfest and liked it - the final game follows up the early zones well, but i feel like the game unfortunately ends right as it's picked up some real steam
the puzzles are neat, the story's thought-provoking, i just wish there were more meat on the bone

okay, i like how it uses odd grid sizes like 12x18 or 5x20, and how the furniture's varied and plentiful, and how you get sent real pictures of pet rodents every so often
not a big fan of just how long it takes to unlock things like other rooms, or how sparse walls/floors are in the catalogue

the music kinda bops, the animations and 3d models are cute (except when they're creepy), and there are little bits here and there which i found spookier than a lot of horror games i've played
short, sweet, surreal, and you'll think about it for a long time

the writing's very odd - it plays up the satirical "ceos are mega-evil" angle, but also portrays union members and protesters as ineffectual jokes, so i genuinely can't even tell if the devs are trying to say anything beyond "we live in a society"
also steam deck performance is shockingly bad

the loop of breaking shit to craft new tools to break bigger shit is paced well enough to not get boring, and the island actually has some fun landmarks and secrets to find and a backstory that's unique, even if the writing's underwhelming

CRIME SCENE CLEANER (NIGHTMARE UPDATE)
basically just doubled the amount of game for free, with some unlockable skins to boot. the remixed areas are nothing to sneeze at, either - some of them barely resemble the originals in layout and theme, so it's genuinely fresh

HOUSE FLIPPER 2
a more distinct visual aesthetic and much less clunky reworks of old tools make this game a very strong follow-up, only marred by the fact that it doesn't yet have the several years worth of new furniture and properties that the first game got

TRASH GOBLIN
some cute character designs and pleasant writing, but you learn basically the whole gameplay loop within about half an hour and it never really evolves past that, so you spend most of your time putzing about until the next plot-relevant npc shows up

as you can tell from how many posts this was, i have complex feelings about death stranding, but overall i think my impression is "unique and compelling, but takes WAY too long to get to the parts that make it come together"
i also still don't care for low roar

MUNDAUN
a beautifully rendered folk horror set in an isolated village in the swiss alps that managed to remain consistently tense and stressful throughout
combat's not very good, though - obviously intentionally, but it's still more frustrating than scary

SHADOWS OF DOUBT
i really respect this game's ambition and immersion, but ultimately the randomly generated nature of it means you're often going through the same steps for every mission, with little in the way of twists and turns keeping it fresh

GREY AREA
a challenging precision platformer with a ton of speedrun potential that i am not nearly good enough to reach, with some neat little rpg maker horror stylings mixed in
not a bad way to kill a few hours, but the plot feels pretty disjointed and the levels a little bland

THE TARTARUS KEY
an oddly cosy horror adventure game that, while well-written and atmospheric, suffers a bit for its brevity
half the cast get no real time to shine before it ends, and some story payoffs feel like afterthoughts
promising though, hope the devs' next game is more substantial

BOMB RUSH CYBERFUNK
very worthy successor to the jet set radio name, pitch-perfect 2000s style and absurdly catchy music with some really smooth animations and fluid combo lines

short but sweet throwback survival horror with a strong central metaphor that never overstays its welcome
striking visuals, great soundtrack, solid characters and an interesting combat system, but too easy to feel truly scary and perhaps a bit too narratively scattered

the new characters are very compelling, especially maruki, and the new final act has genuinely challenging and thoughtful writing and themes
just wish the final semester was better paced
