What we see, I think, are a bunch of rich guys who have been comically out of touch with normal people for many decades, and more recently have blowtorched their brains into a smoking pile of ash on Elon Musk's Twitter/X and in various group chats. It's why they got so worked up about Mamdani in the first place — the New York City mayoralty is not some omnipotent office, and there are a dozen ways to hem it in at the state and local level if they so wished. What these oligarchs spent to stop Mamdani feels like less on an annual basis than he wants them to pay for a better future for all New Yorkers, a joke Mamdani himself has made. In any case, his slight tax increase on rich people, free buses, and city-run grocery stores are pretty far from a communist revolution. But that's not how it appears to rich people, surrounded on all sides by yes-men and toadies, who spend several hours a day marinating in an online Nazi sewer.

I missed this a few weeks back, and am girding myself up to actually listen to it – a Wellington creative director who created a “digital wellspring” based on his recently deceased wife using genAI and is now referring to the resulting chatbot like a person:

I would love to own an S-Cargo. They are one of a series of four totally off-the-chain, hand-built limited edition Nissans from the late 80s. My personal favourite is the Pao:
A blue 1989 Nissan Pao. It’s an adorable three door miniature hatchback with chrome bumpers, external door hinges, almost flat glass, and rear windows where the bottom half folds up horizontally. The interior of a blue 1989 Nissan Pao (not the same vehicle as previous image. It has a 1950s-1960s style body-coloured flat dashboard with a single round speedometer, and a white two-spoke steering wheel. The doors have vent windows with chrome handles in the style of a pre-1970s vehicle. It has an open parcel shelf below the dashboard on either side of the HVAC controls. Visible below the parcel shelf and in front of the transmission shifter is a square silver FM/AM radio with physical analogue dials, which is designed to be taken out of the car for picnics. Adorable.

User Limo-Possession comments: I've had a weird life employment and parent-wise, but my dad sent me out of the house with some tools, bought me random tools over the years, and now has been visiting and "forgetting" some tools here when he goes back home. Take the tools, and call him with questions about how to use them or stories about how you used them and just let the conversation go where it does. He's probably just trying to say he loves you and he's proud of you and you're a worthy legacy. If we want to get further into what’s wrong at RNZ, this article has second billing (!) in the news section of its app *and* you have to click through to the web version to even read it. This is the second time I’ve seen them do it this week

Text from an RNZ story about the No Kings day of protest in the United States: The protests marked the largest outpouring of opposition to Trump's presidency since he returned to power in January, and came the same day that thousands of military personnel, vehicles and aircraft will roll through and fly above Washington, DC in an unusual display of American might. The parade will honour the US Army's 250th anniversary, as well as the president's 79th birthday, but Trump's hopes for a day of celebration have been punctuated by violence and discord.
