This is presumably how archaeological reconstructions of the past happen, with all the lost details and stupid in-jokes of long-dead civilisations replaced with the catch-all of religious/ritual practice

an object like a classic 3x3 Rubik’s cube, only it’s coloured faces broken up with vaguely gearlike shapes, in a partly open paper box a geared Rubik’s Cube-like device, solved but partly rotated on one axis, showing the two outer layers equally rotated in opposite directions, and the corners of the middle layer popped out slightly and rotated the cube in previous pictures with the middle slice rotated halfway to the next face. The two outer slices are now one face apart in colour, and the corners are rotated almost 180° the cubeb rotated to a mixed pattern with each centre framed by two L-shaped areas of different colours
