I kinda get the feeling the creepy obsessiveness with Senshi didn't start until the anime version. But maybe it was a bit more beneath the surface before then.

Or it's because the western audience was largely D&D nerds and not the larger anime crowd.

I really like JoJo, but the anime version is so bad. And the fanbase so excessively annoying.

Not even a western internet problem. The Japanese fanbase is equally terrible.

Being able to talk with natives is important. Keep in mind, ignore it when people say you don't need to know more difficult or advanced stuff. Or when they tell you words aren't used all that often anymore.

Westerners put too many barriers in front of them, so they expect extremely little from them

For real, half the time I've looked at translator blogs and social media accounts, I'll see posts about how they'd barely scraped by getting the N3.

Any other language, you couldn't even work a shift at Burger King with that level of language comprehension.

Knowing Japanese now. The English translations are consistently the worst ones. Especially the official ones.

Games translations too. Non-English translations are usually fine, but the EN ones... Even the "good" ones are only "good" by the unacceptably low standards set.

Me, but with a anime and manga. Lot of shows where I'd watched a Dutch sub . Then a fansub. Then an official English sub. Maybe also a manga.

Each would be drastically different. Even official English translations of popular works released at the same time are never consistent with each other.

The official one was a Woolsey one. So it's largely celebrated for its flavor.

A flavor that was achieved by removing all actual original flavor and dunking the dry remains in American mayo. He sucks so bad.

(And then you have Bowser's Inside Story that at some point makes jokes about escapism through consumerism and entertainment in times of crises)

Actually, it's even weirder with the Japanese version of Mario RPG. That one is just full of pop culture references that wouldn't fly under NoA.

Gundam, Eva, Machine Gun and Sailor Suit references.

It'll probably feel a bit simple to you, but almost every Mario RPG is a good time.

I went from being nice and my actual self to basically giving everyone the minimum politeness I'd reserve for people I don't like. And apparently that's still a bit warmer than they're used to from friends and family. But not too much.

This country and the people in aren't worthwhile.

Actually played it a while back on your recommendation. Great game.

This was the same show where Pomu pretended to be a ring corner the entire match.

Minor sidestory about Harajuku Pomu. At the signing event when I was in Japan, a 4-year-old girl approached her and Pomu played around with her as if they're equals. Pomu's gimmick is that she's eternally a 3 year old child, and it was heartwarming to see her live true to it to a young fan.

Attacks are divided into weak, medium, and strong too. Each with different hit percentage and stamina/time usage based on how deep into the combo they are.

I really wonder if the devs had fighting game brain going into the project or something.

Magic and items are functionally the same thing and need to be equiped to be used in combat. So you have limited use spells, alongside reusable ones (which have a per combat cap, I think)

But also to use it you need meter, built up through attacking like a fighting game's specials.
