I had the outrageous argument that tribalism is bad, but there is nuance. How dare I!

If you witnessed a parent beating the shit out of their kids, I would hope you would intervene regardless the religious claims by the parent that they were just following their religious doctrine.

And that is the entire concept of atheists motivation to change our society. Not hard to grasp
December 9, 2025 at 2:18 AM
You mean they hold the same position as Christians, but are honest?
December 9, 2025 at 2:10 AM
There is tribalism and then there is tribalism Plus. I think there is a big difference between "magic is dumb" and "if you don't accept these 36 bullet points, you secretly worship Satan!"

As the IRA member asked, "But are you a catholic atheist or a protestant atheist?"
December 9, 2025 at 1:58 AM
I feel like whenever redit atheists are mentioned - we're talking about 3 vocal teenagers, and they should stop giving those 3 kids so much attention.

What is the "joke", exactly?
December 6, 2025 at 3:39 AM
Hey now! Yugo's are actually pretty good cars
December 6, 2025 at 3:38 AM
This is an interesting point. I think it endemic to the overall political backlash. When the norms are broken slightly, a lot of people stand up and speak out. When the entire structure is broken to the point we question reality, people are overwhelmed and numbed to what is happening
December 6, 2025 at 3:24 AM
So....that is your thing is asking leading questions and laughing when people ask for you to clarify? Wow, you sure got me!
December 6, 2025 at 3:20 AM
Theology is the study of what other people have said about religion. It is human interpretation all the way down.
December 6, 2025 at 3:18 AM
If so, I'm not sure that is actually a joke. Ironic, sure, but not really funny.
December 6, 2025 at 3:06 AM
I'm not sure exactly what "joke" you are referring to. I'm guessing you're referring to how youth pastors are arrested for sexual assault of children literally every week?
December 6, 2025 at 3:06 AM
Is this mocking atheists or Christians?
December 6, 2025 at 2:50 AM
Projecting false beliefs on other people is also a fallacy and is dishonest. Most people don't like dishonest people, in case you thought that was only an atheist thing. Good bye.
December 4, 2025 at 8:36 PM
SUV's are just station wagons with a lift kit
December 4, 2025 at 8:30 PM
Your projections are just painful. I'm sorry you are wrestling with this, but I'd really appreciate it if you could stop pretending I'm also inside your head. I am definitely not afflicted with...whatever you are going through.
December 4, 2025 at 2:57 AM
The naturalistic fallacy is very seductive. It is right up there with the argument from history fallacy. Instead of engaging in fallacies, how about we just cut to the short. Whether people feel better or not, are religious claims actually true? Or does that matter, in your opinion?
December 4, 2025 at 2:52 AM
Atheism is the most rewarding world view, period.

Crap, I just contradicted your statement.
December 4, 2025 at 2:36 AM
I'm pretty sure you have no idea what life experiences I have enjoyed. Please stop projecting.
December 4, 2025 at 2:36 AM
It is weird how many books that are so poorly written that literally no one reads them, are viewed as well written.
December 4, 2025 at 2:31 AM
I have read plenty on the subject. But i appreciate you think I haven't. Reading more books on the same subject isn't going to make it any more less insane.
December 4, 2025 at 2:30 AM
I'm pretty sure it is older than 2300 years old. But it is still wrong and destructive. I'm a bit concerned you aren't concerned about those attributes. But then, most religious people ignore that bit. I hope you find some way of squaring that circle. I'm very thankful my brain doesn't worry over it
December 4, 2025 at 2:26 AM
That doesn't mean it is good at it or accurate about reality. I would hope that wouldn't need explaining.

If you think religion is impressive just because it is old, I don't know what to say. There are plenty of beliefs that are very old, that are also completely wrong and very destructive.
