Virginians shouldn’t live in fear of gun violence — and as Governor, I will work tirelessly to make sure our communities are safe.

These officers — and law enforcement officials around the Commonwealth — put their lives on the line to protect our communities every single day.

Furthermore, President Trump and Republicans in Congress must take decisive action to stop the hike in healthcare costs thousands of Virginians are about to experience. It’s what Virginians — and our entire nation — deserve.

Tonight, I am relieved that this shutdown is finally coming to an end. But let me make clear: the attacks on Virginia’s federal workforce must also come to an end — immediately.

It’s why, in 2019, one of my earliest votes in Congress was to reopen the federal government — and it’s why I have spent weeks advocating for Democrats and Republicans to work together and bring an end to this shutdown.

Today is also an opportunity to recommit ourselves to a fundamental promise: in America, we leave no Veteran behind. As Virginia’s 75th Governor, I will always stand up for the brave men and women who answered the call.
