Today my @nytimes.com colleagues and I are launching a new series called Lost Science. We interview US scientists who can no longer discover something new about our world, thanks to this year‘s cuts. Here is my first interview with a scientist who studied bees and fires. Gift link: nyti.ms/3IWXbiE

Trump’s war on science is an attack against anyone who has ever loved someone with cancer.

The American people do not want us to slash cancer research in order to give more tax breaks for billionaires.

Happy Valentine’s Day. ❤️

This image shows a section of a human trunk organoid, precursor to the spine and nervous system, grown from human stem cells. The green spot is a notochord, a rod-shaped tissue that acts as a kind of GPS system.

Impostor syndrome is not a disease. It's a normal response to internalizing impossibly high standards.

Doubting yourself doesn’t always mean you're going to fail. It often means you're facing a new challenge and you're going to learn.

Feeling uncertainty is a precursor to growth.

I wrote about the ongoing debates over genomic data sharing and the use of such data for "abhorrent science", including some perspective papers that came out last month. A few key points: 🧵

Today is the World Pancreatic Cancer Day.

Although we have slowly increased 5-year survival from 5% to 12-13% in the last 20 years, there are reasons for optimism:

- KRAS inhibitors
- tumor vaccines
- more effective chemotherapy
- surgery for oligometastatic dz

And much more!
