I don’t know what the percentages are but at least 50% of folks over 65 have some degree of arthritis. The secret is to find safe ways of exercising that help you get stronger. The worst thing we can do for arthritis is to stop moving. #startwhereyouare #agingshouldntsuck

I had my shoulder replaced in January and love it but glad that a surgeon talked me out of a knee replacement years ago. It’s possible I might need one someday down the road but for now mine’s playing along. #startwhereyouare #agingshouldntsuck

It’s essential that we find ways to exercise that are safe and doable. Exercise should challenge us a little bit you shouldn’t feel wrecked the next day. If you haven’t exercised in a while, start with your doc to see if you have limitations or restrictions. #startwhereyouare #agingshouldntsuck

We can improve our balance with practice. Start by just balancing on on foot and as you get better at that you can increase the difficulty by using a balance pad. I like doing it beside a wall or a counter for supptof needed. #startwhereyouare #agingshouldntsuck

This is another approach to getting up and down off the floor without a lot of knee bend and no kneeling but it does require a fair amount of upper body strength. #startwhereyouare #agingshouldntsuck #mobility

I like exercises that challenge our stability. This one is making my core work but it’s also insis that my shoulder keep me from landing on my face. This is an example of an exercise that you need to build up to over time. #startwhereyouare #agingshouldntsuck

Find a way to work some movement in every day and 2-3 times a week work in 20-40 minutes of something that challenges you. Going to the gym or doing a class is great, but body weight exercises are a great start. It will change how aging feels for you. #agingshouldntsuck #startwhereyouare

Things happen all of the time that are out of our control. I think that increases the importance of working on the things that are within our control. Figuring out a way to work 20-30 minutes of resistance training in even just a coupe of times a week will change how aging feels.

Sometimes the difference between something being impossible and doable is just figuring out how to shift your weight differently or how to get better leverage. If this is impossible start by working on leg strength. Chair sit to stands are great starting point. #startwhereyouare #agingshouldntsuck

I was ready to swap my knee for a new one years ago but a combination of PRP, stem cells and both physical therapy and resistance training have given me a new relationship with my knee. It’s not the answer for everyone but it worked in my case.
