I wish I could say I don't understand, but I had the joy of this being one of my mom's favorite books to read to me as a kid...
She's quoted it a few times over the years since, and oh boy does that cause buried emotions to resurface. She just doesn't understand it from my point of view.

No it's not, yes they took down more than that, and sure previous administrations did BUT not like this - this goes so far beyond simple "redecoration".
It's deeply insulting.

The gardens are gone, the entire eastern side of the building is gone. Not to mention the "redecorating". The People's House is literally being destroyed right now and there are staggeringly few people acknowledging it.
Anyone who supports this clearly doesn't understand the significance.
