A11y Tip of the Week: Modal dialogs should trap keyboard focus on purpose. Use the HTML dialog element with .showModal(). It handles focus trapping, Escape to close, background inertness, and returning focus to the trigger when the modal closes.

A11y Tip of the Week: Before making a PDF accessible, ask: does it need to be a PDF? Web pages get you most accessibility features for free. Save PDFs for documents that truly need to be downloaded, printed, or archived.

A11y Tip of the Week: Budget for accessibility from day one. Retrofitting costs more than building it right the first time. Plan it into your timeline, test early and often, and catch issues before they pile up.

A11y Tip of the Week: Required form fields shouldn't play hide and seek.

Asterisks alone aren't enough. Use visible "required" labels, the HTML required attribute, and clear instructions.

Not everyone can see color or spot tiny symbols. Make it obvious for everyone.

Accessibility conversations with clients shouldn't feel scary. The Circle helps freelancers + agencies test, fix, and communicate about accessibility confidently. Special pricing through Jan 29: https://bit.ly/4aAAoVn

A11y Tip of the Week: Your page titles need to make sense out of context.

"Home" tells screen reader users nothing. "Home - AAArdvark Accessibility Testing Platform" tells them exactly where they are.

Title is often the first thing announced - make it count.

A11y tip of the week: aria-describedby adds context (like error messages or hints). aria-labelledby provides the label itself. Use describedby for supplemental info, not as a replacement for visible labels. Screen reader users may need both to understand your forms.
December 30, 2025 at 5:04 PM
A11y tip of the week: Your design should support user-customized text spacing. WCAG requires layouts to handle increased line height, letter spacing, and word spacing without breaking. People with dyslexia and low vision need this to read comfortably. Test with relative units, not fixed heights.

94.8% of sites fail accessibility standards. The same issues keep appearing.

But cynicism guarantees nothing improves. Optimism is strategic persistence - the only approach that works.

Why Optimism Still Matters in Accessibility - AAArdvark
A little while back, I laid out the accessibility crisis in stark terms: 1.3 billion people excluded from digital life, 94.8% of websites failing basic standards, and six easily fixable issues causing a lot of damage. The numbers paint a grim picture...

A11y Tip of the Week: Time limits shouldn't create panic.
Session timeouts, auto-advancing carousels, dismissible notifications - give users control to extend, pause, or disable time limits. People need time to read, process, and act. Let them work at their own pace.##accessibility #a11y

Dark mode is now available in AAArdvark. For users with light sensitivity, migraines, or eye strain, this makes the platform more accessible and comfortable to use.
December 11, 2025 at 7:15 PM
Screen reader users navigate by landmarks, not by scrolling. Using semantic HTML (header, nav, main, footer ) creates shortcuts that let people jump straight to the content they need. #a11y

A11y Tip of the Week: Icon-only buttons aren't as clear as you think - even for sighted users. Best solution? Add visible text labels. If that's truly impossible, use visually-hidden text or aria-labelledby. Save aria-label as a last resort. Visible text helps everyone.
