I feel like we might have been in adjacent chairs this morning. Just came from there and now googling a waterpik.

I’m from Texas so maybe one could say that. I just think you haven’t had a corn tortilla as it is meant to be experienced!

I am about to eat a homemade barbacoa taco on a corn tortilla right now!

and will not vote for GOP candidates in the midterms. The main challenge is to get those people to still vote, which I think the Dems could do if they get in the field and work. Also, I have a strong suspicion that the MAGA coalition is shrinking, so the GOP's floor is bottoming out as well.

To put an even sharper point on this, WE are the thing that stops authoritarianism from consolidating! The Trump administration's tactics only work if we get scared enough to stop protesting, stop voting, and disengage entirely. They can only win the game if we forfeit.

engaging in politics. This is disproven by the historical record, particularly in countries with a (recent) democratic past. The only reason the Trump administration believes this to be true is because so many elite institutions capitulated the moment pressure was applied.

and we have the genesis of new revolutionaries (Sammie and Willa) who can carry the movement forward. It is the same movie, same message, different genre, different tone.

In both movies, characters who appear to be aligned with the movement end up betraying the movement and causing all of the other members of the coalition to suffer. Finally, in both stories, we have loyal radicals (Regina Hall's character is often forgotten relative to Teyana Taylor's/Wunmi Mosaku's

Both movements try to answer the fundamental question: What happens to a movement when a coalition of (Black) people attempts transgressive change (revolution for OBAA, radical joy for Sinners)? In both, whiteness emerges as the threat because it tries to co-opt/own the mov't for its own purposes.

Stack = Bob: Very self-oriented; about the movement only when it suits his aims; a little hapless

Annie = Deandra: The prototypical BW, knows what's up; faithful to the movement

Smoke = Sergio: Stable revolutionary; foil to Stack/Bob; most efficacious

Sammie= Willa: ingenue; new revolutionary

In fact -- and this will be highly controversial -- OBAA and Sinners advance the same fundamental commentary! They have the same character types!

Remmick = Col. Lockjaw: Obsessed with Blackness despite aims to destroy Black radicalism (joy)

Mary = Perfidia: Proximal to whiteness; betrays the mov't
