My friend Sonny & I attended in ‘82. Sonny was 0331 - M60 machine guns, with 1/7. I guess he found some helpers to clean his weapon, one with a distinct attitude. He did 30 years with post office & PTSD. Toward the end his supervisor was Vietnamese immigrant which led to some resentment.

Thinking of David Garrett. We went through basic together at PI, Camy Lejeune and Pendleton with orders to VN In 1967. On our way to CA David loved to say he got me a role in the new Tarzan movie, the punchline being, “they’re looking to replace Cheeta.” Only your friends made jokes like that. RIP

My old, mall walking buddy and Korean War vet’s favorite phrase was, “it’s all bullshit” which applied to almost anything we ever talked about. He had a way of saying it that always amused In his southern-gentlemanly accent. He was proud to achieve rank no higher than PFC after his 2 yr stint.

I’ve been down a dozen rabbit holes already & it’s not even 10am…

If you ever run out of smiling pollywoggy frogs, horned lizards (a reptile) are worth a look. They are very cool, fearsome looking critters, IMO.

All my time was spent north & beyond Hai Van Pass but, of course, South of the DMZ (Dead Marine Zone). We called it “The Street”, short for Street Without Joy, where I was shot, and of which Bernard Fall titled one his books. Coincidently, Fall was with 1/9 when a land mine took his life. Fall:

Would anyone take a shot at explaining why a symbol for “atom” might become a “emblem of belief,” specifically atheism, on grave markers at Arlington cemetery or other veteran’s cemeteries?
