If you know me, you know this is one of my bugbears. I previously wrote a paper looking at how this shift away from cars toward crossovers, SUVs, and pickup trucks has undermined CAFE’s goals, increased climate pollution, and made roads less safe.

I have not had anywhere near enough time to review the NPRM thoroughly, but this part of the Executive Summary immediately struck me. NHTSA is finally acknowledging that the CAFE program encourages carmakers to reclassify what should be cars as light-duty trucks.

This is interesting. We also sold these to saudi years ago. It is the legacy Canada's military capasity around human rights and supplying the UN peace keepers.
