31 year retired educator here, including high school math teacher. As long as there is a financial incentive for colleges to require below 100 level math classes, colleges will ALWAYS claim high school students aren’t ready for college algebra. It’s a billion dollar industry for higher education.

This 1000%. As a high school principal, I continually challenged our English teachers to rethink the literature they used when engaging students. There is a place for the classics, but so much great writing has been done that students would find interesting that teach the same concepts.
