even if there's nothing changed about the music itself, there's still very much the decision to perform a particular piece over another. if a band released an album composed entirely of cover songs, there's still the question of what songs they covered, and in what order they go on the album

my intent was to say that if someone has created something that could be reasonably considered an artistic work, *including a cover song,* it is a creative endeavor. a child would not be consider a creative endeavor because the parents have no direct input over what the child looks like.
