A successful Life on the Edge @southdevonnl walk last night searching for Mediterranean Oil Beetles Meloe mediterraneus at Start Point, Devon. The group found 9 along the coast path and we managed to dodge the showers!

Dotted Bee-fly. Considered rare in Devon. An annual visit to Orley Common late April can be successful. Just two spotted amongst the Dark edged Bee-fly's this year.

It seems to be a good year for Violet Oil beetles. I counted 39 along a short stretch of path at my favourite location on South Dartmoor. Always excited to see any species of Oil Beetles but these take some beating.
