Even as the aspiring Jackie completist I am, this is a hard no for me.

Yes, but only because it doesn't quite coincide with when Taylor's worst album (since the debut, anyway) came out.

Yeah, Jeremy Wells just frequently messes NZ up for me, he just doesn't seem to put any thought into the points, and I get that it's just a stupid comedy show, but the other TMs all seem to at least try to reason their points out. I don't think he's particularly funny either.

We're always looking. We're going chronologically, and we're up to Backdraft before we took a long break (for my mental health stuff). Here's episode 1 on Spotify (we're on apple podcasts as well)
Fearless Pretender: Episode 1 "How long you gonna be gone?"

AU 2, with Anne Edmonds, Jenny Tian, Josh Thomas, Lloyd Langford and Wil Anderson, is one of my favourite series' of all, if only for Jenny's double game of Duck Duck Goose, genuinely maybe the hardest I've ever laughed at an episode.

All of those are fantastic performance wise, I'm mixed on some of the films. I'd probably round out my Top 5 with Hudsucker Proxy, Last Exit to Brooklyn and Fast Times, in some order, though Mrs Parker is also right up there.

The podcast I co-host on JJL and her films will be resuming in 2026.

I hope Channel 4 picks up more of the international versions, AU and NZ are both amazing, and I think if they got to do it with fewer compromises a US version could be incredible too.

eXistenz. Georgia runs it very close in terms of her performance, but I'm also a HUGE Cronenberg fan.

I mean, I love Taskmaster, and I'd love it to keep going for as long as it's good (and it still is, 19 and 20 are both top tier, 19 THE best series so far IMO), but I agree S25 is a logical stopping point if they want to let it go at its height.

I have my specialisms; teen and coming of age movies; Jennifer Jason Leigh and the Video Nasties are probably the big ones.

I do see the value of keeping up, don't get me wrong, and I'm sure I'll make the effort to get current again, but there's also always so much homework to do, and I always want to fill gaps in my knowledge, which I think is really solid from the 70s on, but MUCH shakier before that.

I've seen a little of Darin's work, remember him being very good in Carancho and XXY. As for Ando, you might have seen her as the neighbour in Godzilla Minus One. She's INCREDIBLE as a depressed woman who takes up boxing in 100 Yen Love, she totally transformed herself over the 2 week shoot.

Hope you like it. I think Sakura Ando is probably the best, and most interesting, actor working in her age group (she's 40 in February). It's tragic that so little of her work gets wide international distribution.

...I've been completely disconnected from new releases this year; barely seen 50. Haven't felt I've been missing out though, to be honest, I've got so much stuff to catch up with from before this year.
December 3, 2025 at 1:55 PM
Haven't seen any of them. I only see movies at home these days (a mix of germphobia, which was a thing for me even pre-pandemic and the fact that presentation in cinemas tended to be so shit when I was going). Really want to see Sentimental Value (because Elle Fanning) don't know about the others...
December 3, 2025 at 1:54 PM
I've not seen it (I don't think). Will try to get to it.
BTW, the one I mentioned is available if you search the Japanese title on youtube. That copy has English subs.

Sakura Ando and Nina Hoss have the best faces in movies right now, IMO, but I do love Jessie Buckley, and I'm looking forward to both this and The Bride

I'm not eligible to contribute, but I'd be very interested in seeing this list (with the individual lists, which are always more interesting than any aggregated list).

I'm going to have to watch Yi Yi this month. LOVE the inclusion of Summer, 1993. Incredible film.

Virgin Suicides is my preferred Sofia Coppola film by a mile. I need to rewatch The Beguiled, if only because I'm an Elle Fanning completist, I've not seen it since the cinema and I remember liking it a lot.

There's one co-written project I haven't seen, but otherwise I love everything. My Life as a Courgette might also make the top 50. I actually, weirdly, found a French DVD of Courgette in a local charity shop, and the inside cover turned out to be signed (with a sketch) by one of the animators.
