I got advice awhile ago from a friend that showing genuine interest in something the person you're talking to cares about is a surefire way to have a conversation that doesn't feel forced or scripted and from whenever I tried it feels pretty good

being close to someone is difficult! one of the hard parts about making conversation is knowing what the other person wants to talk about, so what usually brings people together is some mutual interest
