Dementia is such a scary thing. First it was mild - they couldn't remember the Gilded Age and the corruption of the industries. Then it became moderate - they couldn't remember the fight against dictators and fascism. And now it's severe - they can't even remember the last few years and sit idly...

I think a lot about Slavoj Zizek's idea in his book "Surplus Enjoyment" and this section about how we are in a post-catharsis world. Because we are stimulated by the next tragedy in a constant cycle of tragedies, we are never given the chance to learn and change because we now expect another...
