My latest acquisition from Japan just arrived in time for Halloween - a Sharp X68000 XVI!

Nothing beats playing Castlevania on the best 16 bit computer ever made!

Today I’m celebrating the 40th anniversary of the NES with a little NESRGB marathon! This mod always makes a huge difference when compared to the original video output, and it’s fun to install as well!

It’s a beautiful thing to get another Sharp X68000 XVI running again! This one had bad video output because two buffers had failed.

Replaced them both and we are back in business!

It’s wild that Nintendo’s final composite video only console was released back in 2013!

The Wii Mini has lots of limitations but thanks to @webhdx.bsky.social and others we can restore all those lost features. Check out the install video here:

And here's the same track with the upgraded op amp. Thanks to @zaxour.bsky.social for his help with this and finding a suitable replacement!

Here's the original op amp with clear CDDA distortion...

Just finished upgrading the op amp in a Mega Everdrive Pro for a customer of mine. The stock op amp works fine for regular Genesis audio, but it has issues with CDDA audio when using CD audio enhanced Genesis games. With the new amp, everything sounds perfect! Sound comparisons below:

This Sega Master System has every mod imaginable and I love it! Dual pause mod, switchless region and fm audio, new BIOS, new caps, and @zaxour.bsky.social amazing RGB bypass mod!
Zaxour’s RGB bypass produces the best RGB I’ve ever seen on the SMS, plus s-video and composite restore!

This week I built an SMTendo by @zaxour.bsky.social and I’m really impressed with the results! The stock composite video looks great and adding NESRGB was a breeze!

This week I built an Opentendo Toploader NES for @choppedup4lyfe.bsky.social and I love how it looks! Installed a hi def NES kit and the original RF modulator so you can see the between hdmi and messy jailbar RF

Another Neo Geo AES repair this weekend! This one had graphical glitches and the previous owner tried reflowing the LSPC2, with disastrous results.

I fixed the bridges, bent pins, and lifted pads, and then found the final problem: a cut trace between L0 and a buffer. Glad to see it alive again!

Having a relaxing Saturday morning with this new portable color CRT that I just found at a local yard sale.

My Switch 2 is on the way, but give me an NES over that any day

Today I got a Neo Geo AES in with a janky Neotropolis HDMI mod. This mess overheated the console and traces can go bad as a result.

Thanks to the Diagnostic Bios, @chris-jh.bsky.social Board Folk schematics, and a very long bodge wire, we are back in business!

This week I installed the @pixelfx.co retro gem and I’m loving the results! I also added a @blueshell3d.com back panel so that no ports were removed for HDMI!

No it was there, just on the solder side of the board

This Opentendo build for @choppedup4lyfe.bsky.social is FIRE HOT! It's using Merlin Shaw's power module and both PCBs have a gorgeous red silkscreen that matches with a RGR red transparent shell!
To top it off, I installed a Hi Def NES with @collingall.bsky.social no-cut HDMI port on the bottom!

This week I installed a pretty rare piece of kit for the NES! This toploader is modded with the Hi Def NES, which provides lag free 1080p video and digital audio.
These kits have been sold out for years, and this console is available for sale:

Here’s the repaired Famicom Titler, I shared this with redherring already but I might as well share it with everyone! I’ll photograph the second Titler soon

This week I installed the first ever HDMI mod for the 3DO - the PixelFX Retro Gem! It’s really nice to have a video upgrade option for the 3DO again and it looks amazing.

This week I repaired a dead Sharp Famicom Titler! This rare console combines a Famicom with video editing hardware and has native S-video!

One more repair finished before 2024 ends - a Turbo Express! This one had the usual bad caps and a cut trace on the audio circuit which made audio from the speaker too low.
The sooner these consoles get serviced, the better!

Saving scrap boards can really come in handy for console repair. This VA2 Genesis had a dead 68000 CPU so I swapped in a new one that I pulled from an old telecom board!
Telecom boards have plenty of useful chips that can be used to fix consoles or arcades, so don’t pass them up!

This music is what I use in my YouTube videos and was a big part of my experience at the arcade in the 80s and 90s.

I love playing YM2151 music while I repair/mod consoles, so this thing is my new daily driver for music!
December 25, 2024 at 3:47 PM
Here’s my favorite Christmas gift so far - the Arcade Classic 2! This device uses a YM2151 FM synth along with a DAC to play arcade, pinball, and Sharp X68000 music! 🧵

This week I had fun installing @zaxour.bsky.social Turbonanza and Duo Disabler on this fully restored Turbo Duo!

These mods give you the best video/audio from a Duo and make it easy to use it with a TED Pro!
