When I left home my Dad made up
a toolkit for me. I’ve added to it, but at its core it’s still that vintage set. I used it in my old job, & now I’m framing paintings, the friendly, worn, hickory handle of his old awl fits perfectly in mine as I go about the work.

When I left home my Dad made up

I’m having to walk home because of a flat tyre, which I thought’d be a downer, but there’s such a Springy, Friday vibe on the streets, workers gathering outside pubs, tradies grabbing a tinny for the bus, kids at the ice-cream bar with pocket money, people buying good, weekend food for slow cooking.

For a while there, the radiators were ticking the exact same tick that the long-case clock ticked in my grandparents house in the 70s. I was back there for a moment. It felt so nice.

It’s national women’s day, I’ve spent some of it thinking about all the fabulous women in my life. From my wise, love-filled elderly mum to my vibrant daughters and all the amazing women I have collected on the way. I’m so happy and lucky to stand with you. xx
