But people did this before, so I haven't given up hope.

Yes, and we can reasonably wait 1-2 days until samples freeze :/

Hi bubble, Can anyone recommend a US customs broker for handling samples shipped on dry ice (non-commercial)? We're sending RNA to JGI for sequencing and they recommend working with with a brokers so the shipment does not get held up in customs. Any experiences?

I love the origin of this name.. It's such a Newfoundland story where you realize how deep the history of that place goes :)

They're called Lakka in southern Finland (and apparently Hilla in the north). It's probably the most popular jam here, especially with Leipäjuustoa (bread cheese or Finnish squeaky cheese: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bread_c...). It's delicious.

I don't think they taste anything alike..

Local lore is that "The origin of the common name bakeapple has long been reported in NL to be an anglicized version of the French phrase "baie qu'appelle?", which translates as "What is this berry called?""

Naja, Wahlverhalten und approval sind aber jetzt schon zwei unterschiedliche Sachen die nicht so eins-zu-eins vergleichbar sind. Sonntagsfrage (also, eigentlich Dienstagsfrage) Daten gibt's keine, oder?

Ok, I looked it up now, 3000 tons, not 30 000 tons.

Dann halt kontaminiert? Versteht halt keiner.

Still waiting for someone to write '30 000 tons of stolen maple syrup'.

If that's true, how does one achieve a left-of-center majority? Also, doesn't that contradict the history of SD voters to far right parties? I'm not for wooing far right voters, but this seems somewhat defeatist to me ('we will never have a majority sprouting SD ideas')..

Nah. If God wanted us to understand the phosphorus cycle she would have given it a second isotope.

Maybe we should just program our editorial systems to auto-correct 'native speaker' to 'language expert' in all reviews? (or straight to 'writing is crap'?)

Pretty much. I think this typically comes from a non-native reviewer, and in their local context this might be the nicer thing to say.

That's all they had to say? That's some seriously bad / old-fashioned sci writing advice even before they take about native speakers..

I guess we have to update our historical comparisons from Munich Betrayal to Division of Poland :/

Tearing down federal funding in so many areas of science in the USA will have long-lasting effects. Read a great article linked below🧪
For decades, the US government has painstakingly kept American science #1 globally—and every facet of American life has improved because of it. The internet? Flu shot? Ozempic? All grew out of federally-funded research. Now all that's being dismantled. 1/ www.technologyreview.com/2025/02/21/1...

I want to see the American Geophysical Union (AGU) continue its awesome work on justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion. This thread is a call to AGU and AGU members. 1/

Coming back to AGU, does anyone know when and by who the decisions for future meeting locations are made? Sure, AGU locations seem to be locked in until 2028, but that just means it's tine to start campaign to move meetings after that year.

Can we call it Ermächtigtungsgesetz? (en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enablin...)

Literally nothing. Can you explain why that's relevant?

Sorry, I don't get it. Where's the incitement part here?

Times New Roman (what else :p )

IIRC fonts with serifs like TNR are easier to read/follow in a wall of text, like in a proposal.
