been wondering why the lyric “thought i had it right once, twice, but i did not” sounded so familiar, specifically the “i did not”. and i think i figured it out. it’s reminiscent of Laura Dern in Bejeweled who also calls her tacky!! which is from Actually Romantic, the song before Wi$h Li$t!

thinking about the clean version of wood being “opened my skies” “redwood tree” = folklore “his love was the key that opened my skies” = the success of folklore allowed her skies to clear/career to keep going, “a hard rock is on the way” the grounded karma (rock album) plane is cleared to fly again

oh i absolutely must add the fact that on october 2nd, just hours before TLOAS released, Beyoncé posted a video on instagram with Stevie Wonders “Superstitious” in the background. And with wood being one of the most talked about songs, i dont think thats a coincidence!

I think Beyonce uses the word “block” to describe the industry and that ties in with the “got the whole block looking like you” from Wi$h Li$t- a thread 🧵

But going with this and the idea that Gracie, Olivia, and Sabrina have been described as “Tay Daughters” it gives the “have a couple kids, got the whole block looking like you” an entirely new meaning, I think!

Switch your neck ties to purple labels”. I believe a lot of this ties in with the rest of the RENAISSANCE album as well, but im at work and my notes are at home!

Beyonce follows that up with “I hear you be the block, but I’m the lights that keeps the streets on” referring to artists being a source of light but also giving the “you need me i dont need you” mentality.

IM THAT GIRL (2022)- “been beating down the block knocking basquiats off the wall” directly refers back to her song UPGRADE U (2006) when Jay Z says “i used to beat that block, now i be’s the block” Jay Z became president of Def Jam in 2005.
