But how many times do you think white people have put themselves onto black men thinking they'd obviously be "down"? I've also seen this prevalent with people engaging with trans women too and I think that's something that needs to be discussed as well. Rant over I think :3

Also if you really need a good example of what i'm talking about, in that GQ article, D'angelo basically gets sexually assaulted by Madonna, and I've never seen anyone go after Madonna for it, maybe D wanted to just bury it away, we'll never know...

I think after writing all this, I do wanna write that essay, especially now that I have the added lived experience of being sexualized as a black man. I dunno when tho, I will at some point. But anyway, RIP D'angelo and listen to his albums, they're peak.

and I have to do a really quick decision of being honest and telling them I'm bothered by that language, or just try to get over myself because it's still a "compliment". I'm in a committed relationship now, but I still don't really know the answer.

And while for the most part, I've gotten over some of these hangups, as well as overall toxic masculine traits injected into me, alot of that pain is still present. I cannot tell you how many near hookups i've had in the past year with a white queer person, that would say "BBC"...

I mean hell, there is an entire BDSM culture revolved around black men as "apex sexual beings". The whole sexualiation of black men and "BBC" culture has always been something that has made me uncomfortable, and VERY much affected me sexually as a teen and adult.

There are so many issues that plague black men that have haunted them since pre Civil War, yes alot of these issues have intersectionality with other minorities/demographics, but sexuality of black men has been something I've never seen talked about, even though it's been prevalent for so long

D'angelo inspired me in ways that other people may never see, depending on if I ever release the music or not. A perfect album run, there's nothing bad you can say about him musically. I hope he's making fire music with Jay Dee in heaven rn.

I'm more so agnostic but so much black music particuarly of the 90s neo soul variety helped me connect with my blackness that I hated so much as a teen
