Anaheim had the edge everywhere except the scoreboard, but it took a gift power play and a blast from Mason McTavish with 35 seconds left to earn the Ducks a point.

Observations from afar of Ducks' 2-1 OT loss in Chicago ⬇️

Ducks settle for OT point in Chicago, despite analytical prowess
Anaheim earned the edge in shots, shot attempts and expected goals, but only earn one point with McTavish's late power play strike

Final/OT: Blackhawks 2, Ducks 1

In a game Ducks had every chance to win, Chicago comes out on top. Lukáš Dostál makes another spectacular save in OT, but can't hold onto the rebound. Gassed Ducks defenders can't stop the play.

Ducks (2-2-1) in Nashville Tuesday. #FlyTogether
TIE GAME. Mason McTavish blasts a deflected pass on the power play with the goalie pulled and 35.8 seconds to play in Chicago.

In a game the Ducks have dominated analytically, they finally break through late to earn at least a point.

1-1, to overtime. #FlyTogether
Chicago finally breaks the deadlock, and yeah, that's the kind of goal that was going to go in. Far from crisp play at any point, and Nazar finishes a rebound through Gudas.

Ducks have given up the first goal in all 5 games this season. 1-0 Hawks.

#FlyTogether
Through two periods in Chicago, Leo Carlsson has played 14:56. Only Duck with more is Jackson LaCombe at 15:33.

Ducks also posted a 75.36% xGF with Carlsson on the ice in all situations through two periods. Big Leo Szn continues to build.

#FlyTogether
End 2nd: Ducks 0, Blackhawks 0

Lower event period, especially as the teams traded power plays/4-on-4s for the final six minutes. Ducks pushing hard on the analytic side of things, but just can't find a clean finish.

#FlyTogether
End 1: Ducks 0, Blackhawks 0

A goaltender's period, although Anaheim had a couple looks at half-empty nets and couldn't find the finish. Shots 16-10 ANA.

5v5 shows a slight edge Chicago (55.72% xGF). Add in power plays, and advantage points Ducks (67.6% xGF).

This is the 6th all-time meeting between 2023 No. 1 overall Connor Bedard and 2023 No. 2 overall Leo Carlsson.

Blackhawks are 3-2-0 in those games, 6 assists by Bedard. Ducks are 2-3-0 in those games, 3 goals by Carlsson. (Per #NHLStats)

Now *that’s* an interesting lineup.

No Ross Johnston. Ian Moore draws in as defenseman No. 7.

I asked Joel Quenneville yesterday about returning to Chicago for first game since reinstatement, NHL ban resulting from investigation into Blackhawks’ handling of 2010 sexual abuse scandal:

“We had a good relationship with the city and the fans in the rink… I can’t forecast (the reaction), but they’ve been very nice over the years.”

Final: Hurricanes 4, Ducks 1

Carolina shows why it's again one of the NHL's top contenders in denying Anaheim. Couple turnovers are the difference in a strong Canes performance. Constant/consistent pressure both ways.

Carlsson the lone goal. Dostál 26 saves.

#FlyTogether
Leo Carlsson's neutral zone speed nearly pulls the Ducks within one, but he hits the bar. Leo's pressure and netfront gives the Ducks a follow-up opportunity, but Andersen reads well to deny Kreider.

Still 3-1 Carolina, 5:01 to play.

#FlyTogether
Canes back up by two. Alexander Nikishin with his first NHL goal, finding some soft space in the middle of the Ducks zone.

3-1 Carolina in the 3rd. #FlyTogether #CarolinaCulture
Ducks and Canes get into a full line skirmish, including Lukáš Dostál skating down to the opposite end, as the second period ends. McTavish, Sennecke heavily involved there. Dostál jumps in when Andersen jumps Sennecke.

2-1 Canes after 2.

#FlyTogether | #CarolinaCulture
Beckett Sennecke played his next scheduled shift. All good.
Beckett Sennecke takes a tumble into the corner after making a move on the rush. Slow to get up, skates well enough back to the bench, but slow to step up into it.

He's sitting there now, but keep a monitor on it. Took a maintenance day yesterday for a lower-body.

Leo. Carlsson. Ducks need a jolt, and get a lightning strike from the young Swede on the rush. Extremely smart play by Killorn in the neutral zone to get the stretch pass, feed Leo in space.

2-1 Carolina, 9:32 P2 #FlyTogether
Canes double up on the power play. It's a second goal for Seth Jarvis, finishing off a hell of an around-the-horn passing sequence.

2-0 Carolina. #FlyTogether

Mark Jankowski boards Pavel Mintyukov, and the Ducks earn their first power play of the game. Johnston and Gudas go after him, but Jankowski is pulled out of the pile and to the box.

1-0 Canes. #FlyTogether
