if you're going for film look, I suggest you take examples and exact values from them, this might help. And left-right borders give off polaroid or instant photos vibe, which is also great ^^

As long as these borders serve their purpose (to frame the picture and to express your idea), they're welcome. White border with dark shot might be too blinding on some screens, but it may be as well a desired effect. Also it reads as a style feature.
