Yellowhammer Fund won its lawsuit against Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall. The court made it clear: Alabama’s laws do not extend beyond state lines to penalize people for getting or assisting with legal healthcare elsewhere.
We are grateful to be in partnership with them. 🩵
For today’s Movement Monday, we’d like to highlight Be Kind Birmingham.

Be Kind Birmingham is an organization that runs a mobile Free Store, popping up in assorted locations in Birmingham. They consistently show up for community members, ensuring people can have access to much-needed resources.
Your passion and unwavering dedication inspire us every day. 💜
She is highly intentional in her work and how she interacts with the community. Every move is made with passion and a deep care for the people that we serve.
Thank you, Jenice, for creating spaces for Black Joy to blossom, and where needs are truly met.
Everyone wish a very Happy Birthday to our fearless,  Executive Director Jenice Fountain!

Since joining in 2020 as Family Justice Organizer, she has turned lived experience into programs that assure the marginalized folks in the Deep South thrive.
Thank you for supporting radical Reproductive Justice in the Deep South. This break allows us the space to continue being as intentional as possible with our work, and we can't do it without you.
Yellowhammer Fund's staff will be unavailable from Wednesday, October 22nd - Monday, October 27th as we take some time to collectively recharge our batteries. We will respond to any calls and emails as soon as possible upon our return on Tuesday, October 28th.
YHF is committed to our community. One of the ways we do this is by resourcing in ways that support families. While we’re grateful for support from orgs like Baby2Baby, the need is BIG, and we still have to purchase large quantities ourselves. Let's come together for families.
We appreciate everything you do for the community, Dr. Baker. May the light you supply to the world never dim! 💜
Dr. Baker brings his creativity, education, and qualitative analysis skills to these events in a way that not only causes one to take an introspective look into how society impacts us, but also gives space for people to dream, and build out the reality they want to see through tangible solutions.
For Movement Monday, we are spotlighting Dr. Joshua Baker, Ph.D, LMSW! Dr. Baker partners with us monthly for Freedom & Flow, an intimate writing workshop covering topics acknowledging the state of the world, and how we can be radically responsible for the well-being of ourselves and our community.
Join us for Montgomery Pride on Sunday October 26th! Volunteers will be asked to help with set up, passing out supplies, greeting attendees and answering their questions, and assisting with breakdown.

The session will close with audience Q&A, inviting a larger conversation and opportunity to imagine how freedom and access can coexist in our own communities.
From rebuilding abortion access infrastructure to nurturing nontraditional care models and finding joy as a form of resistance, the panelists will reflect on lessons learned and their shared vision for collective liberation.
In addition to the core themes, the audience will have the opportunity to learn more about how our organizations confront and center abolition, explore YHF’s recent reopening, including our victory against a red-state AG, and how we address stigma and shame while embracing joy in our work.
We admire Dr. O's keen eye for detail, organizational skills, and a sense of care for staff and her community. Thank you for sharing your healing spirit with us. Happy Birthday!!!
We'd love to take a moment to wish our lovely Deputy Director, Dr. Orisha Bowers, a Happy Birthday!

Dr. O joined the Yellowhammer Fund team in January, and has been uplifting us all ever since!

She has been supplying staff with guidance, professional development, and structure without fail.
We managed to get 140 postcards, hand-written by constituents, to go to the hands of those who represent us in Alabama Legislature.

We are thankful for moments like these, where we can be directly with our community members, advocating for value-aligned, Reproductive Justice based legislation!
On Friday, we had the pleasure of partnering with URGE Alabama to write postcards to our Legislators, thanking them for voting to issue tax exemptions on menstrual and childcare essentials, and to urge them to vote no to SB3, which would promote abstinence-only sex education in schools.
This day is a reminder: honoring Indigenous Peoples is not symbolic. It is about listening, supporting, and following their leadership toward collective liberation.
3) Center Indigenous voices in conversations about Reproductive Justice and land justice.
4) Advocate for policies that return land and resources to Indigenous communities.
Actionable ways to support Indigenous communities:
1) Learn and amplify the history and current struggles of Indigenous peoples in your region.
2) Support Indigenous-led organizations, like Indigenous Women Rising, with donations, volunteer time, or advocacy.
Indigenous communities have long modeled resilience, care, and self-determination: principles at the heart of Reproductive Justice. We uplift organizations like Indigenous Women Rising, who lead with vision and fight for Indigenous sovereignty, reproductive care, and community well-being.
These communities have faced centuries of displacement, cultural erasure, and systemic violence at the hands of the U.S. government. This is a legacy that continues to impact access to health, land, and reproductive rights today.
Today, on Indigenous Peoples’ Day, we honor the original stewards of the Deep South: the Chickasaw, Choctaw, Creek (Muscogee), and Cherokee peoples, whose lands we now inhabit.
