People selling plasma to survive is a thousand-foot canary in the coal mine waving a neon red flag.

“Greene finds herself taking home store-brand products instead of name brands. She sometimes babysits, does someone’s hair, or sells her own plasma to earn some extra cash.”

“Redford’s work includes real triumph, but it’s the triumph of an artist whose substance was slow-won, stroke by stroke, block by block, until he turned himself into a truly beautiful man.”

“Mort Sahl memorably observed that, despite Redford’s reputation as a ladies’ man onscreen, his true romantic obsession was his country: “America is the Girl.””

Charlie Kirk was as much a modern-day saint as Donald Trump is a modern-day Einstein.

The Pope needs to come collect this Cardinal and teach him some lessons.

“You need only a glancing familiarity with American history to know that violent times almost always lead to violent crackdowns by the state, and that such crackdowns almost always entail an evisceration of basic American freedoms.”

I’ve been rebuilding my DVD collection precisely because I can’t trust corporations to keep anything alive. Thrift stores are a great place to find cheap DVDs (many titles that in some cases are worth much more than they are charging) if you’re browsing; eBay if you have something specific in mind.
I feel seen.

Ignore the "DVD" in the title, by the way. It's become a generic term to indicate physical media for the lay person.

This article captures the Texas summer camp experience in such a kind and gentle way. I didn’t go to a camp with such a storied reputation, but this brought me 40 years back in time.

I lived in China for a bit. It’s not a democracy, but it IS years ahead of the U.S. and this gap will only continue to grow exponentially. Project 2025 talked extensively about shoring up defenses against China, but that thread seems to have been dropped.

(N.B. I’m anti-MAGA but China IS a threat.)

There’s an urban myth that there aren’t any motorcycle helmet laws in IL because the #AMA is in Chicago & they want more organ donors.

I think that’s an absurd conspiracy theory, but it sure makes me wonder why they’re so quiet about the #OBBB and all the people who are set to die because of it.

I will never give another dime to the #Democrats.

“Jeffries’s office did not respond to a request for comment Monday on whether he supports the Massie-Khanna resolution.

“Haven’t taken a look at it,” he said Monday, according to Semafor reporter Dave Weigel.”

Democratic leaders say they don’t want war with Iran. So why won’t they sign onto a war powers resolution?

For anyone who has already been vaccinated and wonders whether they are still immune: a simple blood test can tell you.

Ask your doctor to run your titers (you can get these done at a CVS or other similar clinic as well) so that if you aren’t immune to can get revaccinated (while you still can).

Historians have been warning for some time that Trump may manufacture his version of the Reichstag Fire as an excuse to do whatever he wants without concern for the consequences. Soon this may no longer be theoretical.
