GDP is a shit measure. We've seen GDP increase significantly since 2000. But we've also seen homelessness, wealth inequality, and food bank use increase significantly since 2000.

PP calls for the feds to step aside. Let's make a deal: The feds step aside and give the go ahead for this pipeline that Smith, PP, and some undisclosed (imagined?) proponent want. In return, the feds and RCMP step aside when FNs block it from crossing their land.

Re the MOU and the Con's upcoming motion about 'low emission Alberta bitumen': Where's this 'low emission' oil coming from? The super expensive CCS project, even if working at 100% capacity (a miracle in itself) will store at most 12% of oil sands production emissions.

This is true. NDP and Eby are not afraid of pipelines. They've already allowed two gas pipelines and would allow more. Eby will get 'concessions' from Alberta or the feds, call it a win-win, then call in the RCMP's special units to keep protesters down.
Eby talked a big game, but is already reversing course, weakening his position to appease Carney. This isn't a surprise, he’s letting foreign multi-nationals steal our resources, why not Danielle Smith? Join us to fight back and protect our coastline from this disastrous pipeline bcgreens.ca/join

The only good thing about the Ksi Lisims LNG project is that its Trump-supporting American owners have agreed to DEI and GBA Plus programs in its workplace policies and programs (see page 1-46).

The PRGT pipeline is in a contradictory state. It's termed 'substantially started' by the BC government which allows its 10 year old almost expired environmental certificate to auto-renew, but it's also waiting for final investment decision before construction starts.

"The key secondary benefit is export of things - sometimes things that can kill people." ...people who are no threat to Canada and with whom we have no quarrel. This is not a "key secondary benefit" of weapons export. I agree with your second option; we shouldn't bother.
I’m gonna vehemently disagree because this will come to a head: Canada has a defence industry. There is an active effort to significantly grow that industry. The key secondary benefit is export of things - sometimes things that can kill people. Either we make peace with that, or shouldn’t bother.

In another generation, both Asia and the global south will be more technologically advanced and richer than the global north, and Canada will be a failed petrostate by then. Our focus on O&G extraction and the legacy tech that consumes it will doom us.

The Star Wars universe is so depressing. Everyone seems to be scratching dirt just to get by. Aside from getting the occasional billionaire princess to fall in love with you, the only way to get ahead is to join the rebel army or the imperial army. And then you die young.

I'm beginning to think that maybe we no longer have 30 years to prevent catastrophic climate change. More likely, we have 30 years to transform into a civilization that can survive catastrophic climate change.

Interesting observation. My takeaway is that the consensus in published material is that climate change is real. Because this info is part of LLM training corpus, LLM will also (most of the time) have that same consensus. Some risk though that deniers could label this consensus as 'hallucination'
LLMs are fast becoming a major source of information.

In a new piece over at The Climate Brink, I argue that LLMs are fundamentally consensus machines, and could help defragment our information ecosystem – at least if their creators do not put thumbs on the digital scale.

Not sure how billionaire owned and developed AGI is going to save us, particularly when it comes to climate change. We already know what to do, we simply choose not to do it. We'll ask it how to stop climate change, and it'll say "Stop using fossil fuels". Then we'll shut it off.
