i just need to get thru this month.
i think i'll get it in the spring. i have to raise the funds first, and this winter is a definite no-go.
i cooooooould just be careless and drop it on credit, but i would /not/ prefer to do that unless im debt-free first. i can get there, but either way, ill still be going into 2026.

that's indicative of the fact it'll age well in 2026 onwards.
im fielding the possibilities and in my head ive decided already.
i know it's a tall order to get an oled panel, but something has to allow for the price of the air to be competitive, so i'll be okay, but i mean...ill be able to read into these things as we get closer to the refresh, but to be honest, it's likely i'll settle on the m5 tablet.
it just got released.
if i can get trueDepth front facing cameras to allow for facial recognition, id buy it before it's available.
i won't even have money to spend for the rest of the year, so since the m4 ipad air purportedly gets a spring refresh to the m4, i'll only jump in that proverbial lake if i get a pro-motion display (variable refresh rate) that the pro has as stock config.
they gave me true tone, but i need that vrr.
i can't guarantee ill do anything w pro apps, so dropping money on the ipad pro might be foolhardy, but when i think about it, im essentially trading in the m1 ipad air for a bigger screen size and almost the same tech other than the processing chip, so it'd feel better to step up to the m5 variant.
if the 13" ipad air w the m4 system is a comparable price to that of the current offering, ill bite that lure.
the pro has facial recognition in lieu of touch id on the air. the screen on the pro is much better in terms of peak brightness, contrast, and HDR processing, ofc.
the smaller storage capacities on the pro give it 12g of ram whereby the m3 air gets 8g ram across all configurations. the air has 8c cpu/9c gpu whereas the pro at the smaller storage allocation gets 9c cpu w 3 performance cores and 6 efficiency, so the baseline m3 air "beats" the pro on numbers.
the ipad pro is only preferable because of both its screen tech and its processing chip. the m3 air has one (1) more performance core than those of the m5 pro (it has more efficiency cores to compensate), and i guess i /am/ getting the smaller storage size.
the 1tb/2tb models get 16g of ram.
hmmmm, next year the ipad air is reportedly getting the m4 silicon...it also comes in a 13" variant...i could save a few bucks.
this is everything. the purchase will be for a 13" m5 ipad pro and n o t h i n g else. i even have the fucking apple pencil; this isn't a joke, god damn.
oh well, a screen protector is paramount, fine.
the magnetic stand unfortunately is for an 11" device and there's no workaround, so i'll have to spring for another $30 stand on amazon, whatever.

i do have a slightly bigger sleeve set aside because the new tablet won't fit in the case i've been using, obv, so that's more money i don't have to spend.
the keyboard is the logi mx keys mini, so it's compact, so i'm not fuckin' carrying around a clunky; full-sized keeb—its small enough to put in a tablet sleeve w said tablet (i've been doing the same thing w my current setup) and its not something im forcing to work.

$350, that's just too rich.
ive no issue having the extra hardware (accessories) to carry around because ive already bought these things and theres no need to be wasteful.
i'm just going to get the base model, and i even have an external keyboard i bought a year ago, so i can bluetooth itself and a trackpad to the ipad that i'll put on a magnetic stand, and i don't have to buy a keyboard case like the apple branded "magic keyboard" that's $350 on the 13" variant.
you can bet i'm going for the base model (but the upgraded size) everything, incl storage because i don't want to get this shit to over $1,500 even after my trade in and discounts. it'll sit right at $1k and thats it, bro.

cloud storage saves me hundreds on upgraded local capacity id otherwise buy.
$300 extra for 2" on the diagonal...what a bargain.
2in on a display size seems negligible, but i'm serious; it is a stark difference, esp when having the device in your hands.
i could use the upgrade. esp the 13" model because i have the 11" air and ive seen the 13" in person and its the right size for myself and my preferences when handling a device such as itself.
