True Mates: Soulmates (true mates) have an irresistible draw to the other’s scent or presence. It is typically sealed with a bonding or mating bite on the neck.

Shared Dreams: Depending on the depiction, soulmates can share the same dreams, whether it is a memory, a nightmare, or utter nonsense. Sometimes, it isn't clear if the dream is a soulmate connection or just a work of an overactive dreamscape. In some stories, they are able to meet in their dreams long before they meet in reality.

First Touch: People are unaware of who their soulmate is until they touch skin-to-skin. It is typically is represented as an electric-like shock or sometimes a bruise.

Matching Soulmarks: Typically in this trope, soulmarks are represented by shapes, abstract representations, animals, or scars. Depending on the depiction, soulmarks can be identical, stand-alone pieces, they can show a larger image when side-by-side, or they can represent their soulmate's personality/effect they have on their life in a more abstract way. It also can manifest as the soulmate’s name or first words they say to each other in some iterations!

Colorless World: People see only in greyscale and color blooms once they meet their soulmate. In some versions, a new color becomes visible/identifiable with each new emotion their soulmate makes them feel.

Red String of Fate: Based in mythology, the string of fate is tied around a part of each person, binding them together despite time or place.

Shared Pain: When one half of the pairing is harmed, those injuries are matched on their soulmate’s body. It can manifest as phantom pain or real, physical injuries.

Not Soulmates: In a world of soulmates and predestined love, they rebel against the concept and choose each other of their own accord. With this trope, the couple are not soulmates but make the choice to be with each other regardless.
