I think it is mostly because once methods get too far away from our canon,we are not qualified to evaluate the work and you get into a trap where the field is too small to have its own departments, but also doesn't neatly fit into either economics or history

That's probably true and it is interesting to me why. It is not because economists do not appreciate it - my impression is that there is broad appreciation and demand (as consumers) for economic history. There is a sort of collective failure of figuring out how it fits into economics department

Much of the top wealth is in private businesses, especially in Europe (but also in the US), and those have always been lightly taxed or exempt by the few European wealth taxes that existed in the past

This is based on club competitions not national teams. English teams and their league perform extremely well, that's why their national team not winning anything in a long time is viewed as such an oddity
