#1236 Wu Fei’s Music Daily — Sesame threat

I recorded this double-guzheng improvisation today thinking of my children threatening to eat each other’s sesame treats.

#1234 Wu Fei’s Music Daily — Silent beams 晚山采霓虹

Last Friday, I hiked up the hills. By the time I reached the top, it was already dark. The lit-up downtown of Nashville was a rare sight for me. Hope this solo #guzheng night song brings you beaming joy.

#1233 Wu Fei’s Music Daily — Dancing masters 舞叶

I took a walk on the hills of West Nashville today. Leaves were blowing off the trees & dancing in the wind. It made me want to write music. Hope this high energy guzheng piece brings you some autumn attitude.

It’s been an interesting evening of sharing songs with my teenage daughter - from our most recent favorite rap songs to cabaret songs, to J-pop etc.. Definitely the best to bond with your teenage children 😆

#1232 Wu Fei’s Music Daily - Myron's drum 麦老的小军鼓 (video)

Today’s piece is inspired by legendary jazz drummer & a new, dear friend I made this year—the maestro, Myron Cohen. Look him up if you don’t know of him yet. Classic!

Drinking Isatis root tea 板蓝根 with Goji berries 枸杞 in it and soaking up the lovely sunshine before going into my music studio.

Finally, it’s the season to wear my favorite hat which I sewed the beads on.

1229 Wu Fei’s Music Daily — Zebra grin 斑马笑

Today’s piece was recorded on 4-track guzheng. The inspiration came from a safari trip in South Africa about 15 years ago. I was fascinated by the wild animals that we passed by, especially the goofy & cute zebras.

#1228 Wu Fei’s Music Daily — Run, fawn, run 鹿儿, 你赶快跑

I created this 3-track guzheng piece today while thinking of the deer in the forest near my home in West Nashville. Hunting season has begun in Tennessee & I hope these deer escape the hunters’ arrows.

Today was the premier of Johannes Brahms’ Symphony No.1 in C minor on Novmember 4, 1876.

It took him 20 years to finish the piece, living under Beethoven’s influence. I’ve always felt bad for Brahms because of this reason.

#1225 Wu Fei’s Music Daily — The mysterious B flat 神秘的降B

Today’s guzheng and vocal improvisation was inspired by an interesting discovery in my house. I was heating up lunch in the microwave while my husband was making an espresso with the coffee machine.

What a fun night performing w/ Abigail Washburn at the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations Gala and making new friends!

It’s nice to see senior officials & states people from 2 sides sit down to have dinner.

A battle of bands from both sides would be way cooler 😎🤘

For anyone who needs to renew U.S. #passport soon, I did mine online 2 wks ago w/out going to a postal office. It took 9 days (incl a wknd) from when I submitted the application to when I received the new passport. I didn’t choose priority mail delivery, somehow it’s mailed to me via USPS priority.

#1224 Wu Fei’s Music Daily — Think again 三思

In the world of AI, making mistakes is more valuable. At least it’s real. I took this photo yesterday near my home in Nashville. The colors are so intense under the sun that it looks almost like an oil painting.

Music: Koum Tara (Algerian music)

#1221 Wu Fei’s Music Daily – New frequency

(The birds in the forest are chirping like crazy in the recording, now I’m listening to it 🌳 It’s working!)

Today, I tuned my guzheng to a frequency of A4 = 432 Hz, which is also known as “cycles per second”.

#1220 Wu Fei’s Music Daily — Bamboo shadow 竹影

Double guzheng improv.

The lighter-colored one is crafted from nanmu wood (楠木), a precious timber native to China & South Asia. Historically, nanmu was used in boatbuilding, architecture, furniture & sculpture.

Just listened to this solo da-ruan 大阮(bass ruan) new composition on QQ Music (1) , composed by Li Yuejin & performed by Li Bocheng. It’s so good that I’ve listened to it for at least 5 x repeat. So happy to hear amazing new works on trad. Chinese instruments from contemporary music world in China!

#1217 Wu Fei's Music Daily – Africa’s bobo deer 脖脖鹿 Valiha night song 8

I sang & improvised this song on the valiha—a trad. 21-string tube zither from Madagascar. I want to thank my friends Tasha & David for bringing me this gift from Madagascar to Nashville.

#1216 Wu Fei’s Music Daily — Acid mother food 酸甜祖母绿

I composed this 4-track guzheng étude today. The tomatoes in my mom’s garden are ripe. That sweet/sour taste awakens every nerve from my skull to spine. It’ll be hard to return to store-bought tomatoes.

#1215 Wu Fei’s Music Daily — Poisonous Jack-o-lanterns 萤蛊

This four-track guzheng set was inspired by the Jack-o’-lantern mushrooms I saw on a hike today. They’re all over the hills in West Nashville, and it was my first time seeing these bright orange fungi.
