Interesting, but I think you give Johnson too much credit. His professed faith hides the absence of a moral compass and rather than being coerced, he quite willingly hitched his wagon to the star of said con man.

I’ve got entire decades I would take back if I could, and I suppose if there were a chance to make money, I also would be publicly offering mea culpas. Stick around, you’re going to love it in a few years after he’s gone and every one in his circle is scrambling to share their concerns.

In their defense (kind of), I think the they have been left behind. Gingrich killed that clubby agree-to-disagree, “my good friend across the aisle” thing in the ‘90s, and the Rs have been out for blood ever since, but no one told the dems. They aren’t evil or complicit, just pathetic.

Maybe we need another pandemic. 1 million dead, a cratered economy and a botched government overthrow wasn’t enough to dissuade people from voting for him again. Mother Nature needs to lift her game.

This was no triumph of the first amendment; this Disney reminding us that, in Trump’s America, even fear takes a back seat to greed. It’s useful information, and I am all for people and corporations doing the right thing for the wrong reasons, but don’t make it out to be more than that.
