What we’re demanding:
Ban biometric & bulk surveillance
Publish anonymised journey data for public oversight
Make algorithms accountable & bias-tested
Cap ghost-cruising fleets
Levy operator fees for worker/community funds
Protect workers with fair standards & a just transition

And it’s not just privacy. England has 381,000 taxi & PHV drivers whose livelihoods are at risk from robo-taxis. The govt promises 38,000 new AV jobs but most will be outsourced, low-paid, precarious, and under algorithmic control.

We’ve seen this before. Our Managed by Bots report showed how Uber became an intelligence source for police, receiving thousands of data requests from Met police, not to mention the sharing of "soft intelligence"
AVs will multiply this across entire cities.

The govt’s consultation gives broad powers for police to access this data — no warrants, no strict limits, no deletion rules.

In the US, police already tap robo-taxi footage to monitor protests & investigate crimes.

AVs are mobile surveillance platforms: 360° cameras, LiDAR mapping buildings & pedestrian movement, continuous audio capture & wireless tracking

The UK govt is fast-tracking autonomous vehicles (AVs) onto our streets by 2026.

But this isn’t just about transport. It’s about handing vast surveillance powers + precarious jobs to private tech giants.

Clear admission from Uber in today's earning call of what was long suspected but never admitted: Uber is harvesting data from their driver workforce to train autonomous vehicle AI models to replace them.

Uber's $20bn share buy back is a MASSIVE transfer of their wage theft from exploited workers to greedy investors. It equates to $2,400 for every rider & driver on the platform or just under the total value of fares collected from passengers in Q2 '25. www.ft.com/content/6643...

Instead of consulting their workforce about changes in work practices and product, Uber senior managers are consulting ChatGPT instead!

The 'innovators' at Wayve, Uber's autonomous vehicle investment, are not just content with automating the actual driving, they also want to replicate and automate the emotional labour of drivers as well!

According to Pershing Square, a major investor in Uber, in the near future human drivers will only fill in gaps at periods of peak demand, most of the work will be done by autonomous vehicle fleets. Having destroyed decent work, Uber now wants to kill off employment altogether.

The FTC has launched a legal complaint against Uber alleging misrepresentation and unfairly charging consumers without consent. This relates to the Uber One subscription service where consumers were bamboozled with 23 screens & 32 actions when trying to cancel.

Home Office praise for Deliveroo, Just Eat, Uber Eats on illegal working ‘beyond absurd’ @workerinfox.bsky.social claims.

“The elephant in the room is why platforms would even want to allow substitutes when people with the right to work could just sign up directly," says @jamesfarrar.bsky.social

cabbage of another name......?? As many drivers who were robo-fired will tell you, Uber's algos are not renowned for discretion, accuracy and fairness.
