Without funding, women’s rights movements risk fading into silence. Cuts often come with repression and shrinking civic space, forcing WROs to focus on service provision instead of advocacy and leaving critical issues like gender-based violence, abortion, and LGBTIQ+ rights under-addressed. “Now is not the time to reduce funding for women & girls, it is the time to strengthen it. Around the world, women are on the frontlines of peace-building, economic recovery, health care, education, & climate resilience. Cutting support now would not only reverse decades of progress.” More Below...

Evidence shows violence against women & girls (VAWG) is preventable. Women’s rights organisations (WROs) and civil society organisations (CSOs) are key to policy change & are often the only source of support for those facing violence or discrimination

Today, Oct 31 2025 marks 25 yrs of UN Resolution 1325, foundational for Women Peace & Security. Despite progress, women & girls still face grave violations in conflict zones. We must act to prevent the reversal of generational gains in rights. #WPS #UN1325

The UN’s Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda, set out in UNSCR 1325, was meant to put women at the centre of peacebuilding but is often sidelined.
With conflicts at their highest since 1946, feminist antimilitarist voices are more vital than ever. #WPS #UNSCR1325 #FeministPeace #WomensPlatformNI

Civil society remains indispensable: it drove the adoption of Resolution 1325, sustains its agenda, & continues to demand accountability and results.Without this pressure, the resolution risks losing substance. Defending the Women, Peace & Security Agenda is more urgent than ever #WomenPeaceSecurity
October 24, 2025 at 6:02 AM
Many challenges remain for the WPS Agenda.
Laws haven’t transformed women’s lives in conflict.
Sexual violence continues with impunity, and participation in peace processes is still limited. To achieve sustainable peace, WPS must shift beyond securitisation to a truly feminist approach. #WPS
October 22, 2025 at 6:01 AM
The Women, Peace & Security (WPS) agenda, born from UN Resolution 1325, recognises women as vital to preventing conflict and building peace.
But civil society, especially women’s organisations, remains underfunded. It’s time to shift resources from hard security to sustainable, people-powered peace.

Key Lessons continued: 25 YEARS OF #WPS
✔️ Sustained support for women peacebuilders keeps women’s rights central to diplomacy.
✔️ Women’s leadership — especially young women — is key to prevention, resolution & lasting peace.

Some key lessonS from 25 years of #WPS? ⚠️ Soft security matters. Progress under #UNSCR1325 risks being undermined by growing focus on hard security. ⚠️ Gendered disinformation is a real threat. Strong networks, online safety training & inclusion in National Action Plans are key.#WomenPlatformNI

When women lead, peace follows. We echo @unwomenchief Sima Bahous: this is no time for commemoration, it’s time to refocus, recommit & deliver on #WPS & #UNSCR1325.Gaza’s women face unimaginable suffering. We welcome @unitednations aid, but lasting peace demands women at the table .
