coworker likes jazz, and so a while ago we got to chatting about it a bit and names like Louis Armstrong and Dave Brubeck came up and I have absolutely no beef with that and love Louis but also so have this perverse urge to give him a copy of Coltrane’s Meditations with no explanation or warning

hey you know what’s funny? Jim Hopper and Joyce Byers would both be like 84 today if they were real people

I’ve recently thought, for seeming no reason at all, of when COVID hit the US, and my older kid was a 6yo in kindergarten who got that beginning of elementary school massively disrupted, and none of us knew quite how to navigate that bizarre terrain. he was so young, but it wasn’t so long ago.

My book _Traces of the Prophets: Relics and Sacred Spaces in Early Islam_ is finally coming out in a much-more-reasonably-priced paperback in December. And you can take 30% off that with this discount code. Reviewers are calling it “good” etc

I try to explore more recent metal bands but I gotta be honest, with the exception of a very few select bands I just like the old stuff (Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest) more

If you haven't read Inkface by Miles Grier you're missing the best treatments of Othello (and Shakespeare in general) in living memory bookshop.org/p/books/inkf...
I was ready to go UP for Cynthia Erivo in Othello with David Oyelowo (and I still am) but I thought she would be playing Iago. It's alright, but she would eat that for the record

on the drive to family for T-giving, I went straight from Someday My Prince Will Come to the 1964 Phil Hall concert. I recommend that because it can reintroduce you to how revelatory the Herbie/Ron/Tony rhythm section was at the time.
NEW THEORY: the guy who shouts in response to one of Miles’s phrases on the 1964 Philharmonic Hall performance of “Stella By Starlight” was, in fact, shouting “Stellaaaaa!” because he thought it would be fun to do a Stanley Kowalski
