for fun, I’m going to try to post one piece of classical music that has spooky vibes for each day of October—and to not use only pieces by Chopin, Scriabin, or Ravel

Day 1: Chopin’s Nocturne in G Minor, op.15/3
G minor, op. 15, n? 3

Sunn O))) releasing new music on the same day that D’Angelo leaves us is my religion

the vessels come and go; the vibrations continue
winteron.bsky.social
and frankly, I don’t care how many less-than-stellar tracks D’Angelo made.
a musician who creates

“Playa Playa”
“How Does It Feel” (THE MUSIC)
“Ain’t That Easy”
“Another Life”

—that musician is a giant

been trying to put my finger on why D’Angelo feels so important to me. each of his albums has its weak spots, and he wasn’t the greatest lyrics—let’s be honest.

but I think what he did for groove and *feel* in R&B may be as significant as what Charlie Parker did for those elements in jazz.

and now that he's gone, I realize that while I "officially" said I wasn't holding my breath for a next album, in my heart I was always hoping for one
winteron.bsky.social
when, by around 2018, D'Angelo had not released the follow-up to BLACK MESSIAH that he claimed would be coming soon, I accepted the very real possibility that we would not get another album by him. but that was because I figured his inner critic had grown too strong, his pace of creation too slow--

can’t explain it much more clearly than this

Did you know that if you buy my book on Amazon, Jeff Bezos makes 5 times as much as I do on each copy sold? Sharing some behind-the-scenes book math on why buying directly from presses is best for EVERYONE (except Bezos) in my newsletter today! aubreyhirsch.substack.com/p/book-math

omg I forgot that sentence is in it!

honestly just jealous of your writerly impetus! in theory I want to be writing. but then I think about actually opening my own document (on top of all the docs I already look at for work), and a cold pang of dread hits

Ok switching up the vibes. Everyone recommend a book you like. Or a sandwich or something

This two-parter below is exactly why it's hard to make clothes in the United States.

Let's look at how much it costs to produce a button-up shirt in the US. 🧵
Someone on Twitter replies to me: "meh. buy american or stfu."

Two hours later, in a separate thread, the write: "$30 for a single button-up is ridiculous unless it is decent quality silk."

ok, the reply guys and gals have come out to play, which means it’s time for me to close this thread. have a good day, y’all! 🙂

does anyone else feel like most interfaces on your phone have become nearly unusable? auto-correct and other predictive text functions are now an active hindrance. I can’t just type in a search term without the search bar *guessing at* what I meant to search for and replacing what I actually typed
winteron.bsky.social
if you read past my first post you’ll see I wasn’t only talking about predictive text. I can’t “turn off” how a newspaper structures its website or how password management software operates
winteron.bsky.social
of course! because that makes total sense 🙃
winteron.bsky.social
auto-correct has gotten notably worse in the past few years. it used to be actually helpful!
winteron.bsky.social
the password-save function on browsers and on my phone’s OS are jokes—much of the time they don’t load properly, and the face recognition feature almost never loads properly.

I feel like it’s now impossible to actually *read a news article* on newspaper websites—everything is linked to something else, and you somehow keep ending up back at “live updates.” I’m not reading a news report; I’m clicking around a maze of links
