But after learning that Hughes wasn't going to re-sign three weeks ago, the Canucks acted quickly and secured a very solid package in return, while committing to a rebuild.

A lot has happened around the NHL over the last 24 hours, and things are starting to feel hectic. The biggest headline yesterday was the Quinn Hughes trade, which sent the star defenceman to the Minnesota Wild. That move alone may have shifted the trade market. For Calgary Flames fans, the Hughes deal has only added to the anxiety. With other teams making bold moves, the question now is when the Flames are finally going to pull the trigger on a major trade of their own.

The story for the Calgary Flames this season has been their histroically bad start. With that comes the conversations regarding what the team is going to do with some of their veterans on the roster. It didn't take long for Hunter Brzustewicz to make an impact for the Calgary Flames. Called up earlier this week due to an injury to Jake Bean, the 21 year old defenceman played his first game of the 2025-26 season last night against the Red Wings. Brzustewicz didn't just stay afloat in his second career NHL game, he flat out dominated.

Over the many years that the World Junior Championship has taken place, hockey fans have seen many star players emerge in the tournament. Recent stars such as Connor Bedard and Leo Carlsson had exceptional tournaments during their junior careers and have now grown into NHL icons.
