October…“When all the lovely wayside things
Their white-winged seeds are sowing,
And in the fields still green and fair,
Late aftermaths are growing.”

Hogweed, hollyhock, campion, creeping thistle, autumn hawk-bit, yarrow, green alkanet, feverfew found today. #WildflowerHour
A collage of eight wildflowers: delicate white umbels of hogweed; bright pink hollyhock blooms; white campion with star-like petals; purple spiky creeping thistle; small yellow autumn hawk-bit; clustered white yarrow heads; vivid blue green alkanet flowers; and daisy-like feverfew with yellow centres.

Lower half of the photo, foreground, shows ivy flowers growing on the bank of the River Soar, Leicester. In the background the river and a former textile factory are shrouded in fog.

Very late flowering Spanish Catchfly, Silene otites, at Icklingham Triangle SSSI West #Suffolk. Can be easier to see the dark green leaves than he flowers against the background.

Truth be told, I am a glass of wine in and forgot to look up what my #wildflowerhour flowers are. But there is a cheeky grapevine which escaped into the wild. And I like the heart-shaped mushroom because we all need some love.

Field Madder. Most conspicuous in the size of its very tiny mauve-pink flowers. A new one for me observed along a well trodden Lincolnshire farmland footpath #WildflowerHour
2-3 mm Mauve-pink flowers of Field Madder amongst their whorled, pointed green leaves.

Marsh Mallow near Fawley and Long-stalked Crane's-bill on chalk grassland near Andover over the summer #WildflowerHour

📷Billy Dykes
Long-stalked Crane's-bill, a pale pink flower with a long stem. Marsh Mallow - close up of the flower. It had white petals. More Marsh Mallow. There are some stems of Reeds in amongst the patch of Marsh Mallow Habitat shot for the Marsh Mallow. It is mostly shingle with a little sand near the water. The sea is flat and partly out. Some of the shingle and intertidal area is vegetated. On the opposite side of the water is Southampton with some tall buildings visible, as well as a wooded area.

Creeping Thistle still attracting pollinators in Dunorlan Park. In many parks this big patch would have been wiped out as 'weeds' but not here in Tunbridge Wells! #wildflowerhour

Last summer I went to RSPB Snettisham specifically to find Carline Thistle, which I'd never seen. Yesterday I went to see the Short-toed Lark that's been feeding on the beach there, so I got to see what Carline Thistle looks like when the plant's died leaving just the seed heads. #WildflowerHour
A dead plant with dried up spiny leaves. Several large thistle seed heads are still attached and still have seeds which haven't yet blown away.
