Wilderness Watch and our allies have sued Trump's Interior Department for an illegal land swap threatening the Izembek Wilderness and its wildlife with a new road that would cut the Wilderness in two.

The “Fix Our Forests Act” (S. 1462) would override bedrock environmental laws to increase damaging livestock grazing and widespread use of manager-ignited fire in Wilderness.

Last week, the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Subcommittee on Public Lands, Forests, and Mining hosted a hearing on a slew of bill, many of which would undermine the protection of Wilderness.

Here's our testimony.

Whoa, cowboy!

Roughly two-thirds of all the livestock grazing on public land acres administered by the BLM is controlled by just 10% of ranchers.

On Forest Service administered public land, the top 10% of permittees control more than 50% of grazing.

Please contact your two senators and urge them to oppose Senator Mike Lee’s (R-UT) so-called “Border Lands Conservation Act" (S. 2967).

Our government doesn’t want better information. In our upside-down world, if the government spends the time to propose a project with potentially large environmental costs, NEPA and its values are annoying speed bumps to apparently inevitable “progress.”

RIP NEPA - Wilderness Watch
Our leaders are letting the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 (NEPA) die. But, maybe that’s okay. It’s time for a National Environmental Protection Act.

In reality, the bill would do immense and unnecessary damage to the wild groves of giant sequoias in designated Wilderness.
