If you reply to this with love stories about your relationship with your agent, you are maybe unhinged but not the kind of unhinged I find interesting.

Not unhinged but…after someone compared literary agents to realtors, I…have not been able to lose the image 😆

I think “unhinged” just lost all meaning there.

In this case I see a meet-up group with the same photo of the person who emailed me, with the name of the group matching. Another photo shows several people holding books, and the book covers look legit—no aberrations. I have to sleuth to make sure I’m dealing with a human.

Sucks to be inundated by bots and/or questionable people offering book PR with ai-written emails, and then have to do like three layers of due diligence to determine if other emails are from actual real people representing an actual real book club.

This week in 1988: 1,000+ ACT UP demonstrators shut down the FDA headquarters, demanding (and eventually winning) action on developing HIV/AIDS treatments. ACT UP's militant and creative actions always included powerful visual artwork, and paved the way for movements in the decades to come.
A photograph from the 1988 ACT UP demonstration outside the FDA. Many people are participating in a die-in on the front steps, holding mock tombstones with messages like "RIP - killed by the FDA" and "Dead from lack of drugs." A line of police officers (some with classic 80s mustaches) wearing riot helmets stands between them and the building; one cop wearing white gloves is walking through the demonstrators. Affixed to the 2nd story windows of the building is a series of posters and a large blank banner reading Silence = Death.

I'm so proud of everyone from my old neighborhood of Rogers Park in Chicago. I see what you have been and are doing. I am so proud of how organized the community is and how much more so everyone is becoming. It is inspiring. Just one example... And this is something EVERYONE can do. Everyone.
Informational flyer about Rogers Park Whistle Protocols, explaining how to use whistles to alert neighbors of emergencies, with color-coded alerts, steps for use, and encouragement to form a crowd and stay loud for safety.

It’s good to read about recent (2018-present) protests and how they’ve played out so as not to memory-hole stories of resistance!

“Portland has a reputation for being scrappy and resourceful. We have a reputation for antifascist action, and for good reason. As I wrote for The Nation in 2020, Portland has a history of successfully standing up to fascists.” cariluna.com/war-ravaged-...
