One of the wildest parts of transcribing my journals from the mid-1990s has been seeing my lists of income vs bills. My share of rent (with only one other housemate) was $163-178 in Olympia,WA. My share of the cable bill was $6. And so on and so forth.

I have a copy of my entire Catholic high school report card with pre-SAT scores and class ranking on one sheet of paper. I showed it to the 15yo and after carefully looking at each semester’s grades, she said, “It looks like you only got good grades in the classes you cared about.” BINGO
