A book of the year in the Observer today, the Irish Times yesterday and the Daily Mail last week. Lovely, lovely comments. Thank you @sceptrebooks.bsky.social for everything. Also in the top ten sellers at Waterstones Ballymena, which had pleased me no end. Thank you! Really appreciated.

I am delighted to be on the Gordon Burn longlist because number one, I am a Gordon Burn nut, and number two the books I have already read on this list are brilliant. Thank you so much.

Thank you Ian. That’s so lovely to hear. It makes demands on a reader, for sure, and thankfully there seem to be people like you well able for it.
This excellent novel, by @wednesdayerskin.bsky.social, is so vivid and moving in how it captures multiple stories and voices in a compelling narrative. Funny, shocking, insightful and so richly alive.

In terms of shortlists, I can never look at one without thinking about the other books, equally good, that might have been there.
That said, get voting. I’m delighted that The Benefactors is here in such lovely company. www.irishbookawards.ie/vote/

I loved this evening. Thank you for having me.
Can we take a moment to talk about our event with @wednesdayerskin.bsky.social...

Everyone was absolutely enthralled and could have sat until morning listening to Wendy chat to @mikephilpott.bsky.social about her work, her influences, and what's next. When I grow up, I want to be as cool as Wendy!
