I would love to read a DekuBaku omegaverse story where every alpha and every omega is born with a tattoo somewhere on their body — a heart with their soulmate’s name written inside it — allowing them to know the name

But Mother Nature seemed to have other plans.

A storm was about to strike the Fir Peaks Reserve.
At this very moment, she had to find her precious pup as quickly as possible, before the nightmare she had already lived through during Katsuki’s first disappearance repeated itself.
And that thought terrified her more than anything.

But, for now, that wasn’t what mattered most.
She knew that Katsuki had likely already picked up on subtle hints from the pack members.

She knew that one day, her son would inevitably discover the truth about everything that had happened back then.
She wanted to spare him those memories, to prevent him from developing trauma or nightmares at night.

She was protecting him.

She was shielding him from this nightmarish and terrifying truth, ensuring her son wouldn’t fall into fear and paranoia.

But deep down, she knew.
And because of these two reasons, Katsuki would never understand his mother… Unless Mitsuki told him everything that had happened when he was a pup.

But she preferred to say nothing.
Social bonds among wolves were incredibly strong, and they could recognize their former companions through scents and sounds.
The second reason was that a wolf might not recall every detail of its childhood, but it could feel familiarity or emotion upon reuniting with a pack member after years apart.
If it had experienced a stressful situation (such as an attack or separation), it could retain an instinctive reaction to it, even without having a precise memory of it, just as a human might.
One of these reasons was that wolves had a highly developed memory for scents, sounds, and significant experiences.

For example, an adult wolf could remember the scents of its childhood pack or a place where it had found food.
Of course, there were reasons why Katsuki didn’t remember what had happened when he was little, preventing him from
understanding his mother’s excessive reactions toward him, unlike the others.
When Mitsuki finally stopped in front of her adorable wolf pups— who were already young adolescents— Akina gave her a smile, while Katsuki rolled his eyes upon seeing her get into such a state, even though they had only been a few hundred meters away from the pack and their father.
So yes, maybe she was a bit too harsh on him, always on his back, compared to her other pups.

But if she acted this way, it was because she refused to relive the hell she had gone through when Katsuki was just an innocent and defenseless pup.
