Thank you Block Club for helping to document this experience, which is happening dozens of times each day across our city.
This morning I responded to calls from our local rapid response network indicating that ICE was in our community attempting to kidnap our neighbors. When I found ICE on site, my Chief of Staff and I followed them, demanding that they provide us with proper identification.

This morning the Chicago Commission on Human Relations convened a hearing to witness testimony regarding reported increases in antisemitic hate crimes in Chicago. Alderperson Rodriguez Sanchez provided these remarks as opening testimony.

Thank you to the researchers, advocates, and community leaders that have provided us with this important information.
I am proud to have stood against expanding ShotSpotter and will always fight for investment in community safety solutions that work like crisis support workers, CARE teams, housing, and programs that empower our neighbors to care for each other.
STREET CLOSURE: The following streets will be closed to traffic for the festival from 7am on Friday, 8/8 thru midnight on Saturday, 8/9:

- Kimball Ave between W Lawrence Ave and W Eastwood, both sides of the street

- Leeland Ave between Kimball Ave and Bernard Ct, both sides of the street.
I am also very excited to invite you to join us at our own local Taste of Albany Park on August 9! This is an extension of the Taste of Chicago and highlights the amazing food of Albany Park. The Taste is free entry and will be hosted along Kimball Ave, between Lawrence and Leeland from noon-8pm.
We need to expand CARE’s hours and staffing, strengthen its ties to mental health clinics, train dispatchers and ensure no one is left screaming on a sidewalk, unseen and unsupported. We’ve built so much already together. We cannot turn back now. Let’s invest in what works and help heal our city.
They’re already diverting crisis calls away from police and toward services that heal, and police departments themselves have welcomed their presence.
CARE teams include mental health professionals, peer support workers and first responders. They bring compassion, not cuffs. They offer support, not punishment. They show up with the training and experience to de-escalate and connect people in a way that fosters caring.
Yesterday, the Chicago Sun Times published an op-ed I authored to advocate for the expansion of Chicago's Crisis Assistance Response and Engagement (C.A.R.E.) program.

Thank you to everyone that came today to show support and solidarity, and to document this wrongful attack on our community.
These are mothers, fathers, parents, siblings, and their families will always carry with them the harm that was done today.
This afternoon I had the heartbreaking experience of fighting to defend 12 of our neighbors who were cruelly detained by ICE agents while attending their routine ISAP check-in appointments at the 2245 S. Michigan location.
If you or a family member, a friend, or a neighbor is summoned to court, it is recommended that you first reach out to the ICIRR Family Support Hotline at 855-435-7693.

Today, in the aftermath of the horrific attack in DC last night, many who are seeking to discredit the progressive movement in Chicago have purposely shared misinformation attempting to connect the shooter to local progressive movement spaces and elected leaders.
