Made it to Ben Shahn's retrospective exhibit "On Non-Conformity" at the Jewish Museum in NYC. Very timely. And well-curated with historical documents, printed materials and some of his reference images. Closes Sunday, October 26. There's a book if you miss the show.
Lots of great conversations but but too busy chatting to take photos this time around! #sunsetparkopenstudios

Great to meet @david.willburn and @steven_cabral36 in-person at their new exhibits at @thepaintingcenter last Thur night. Congrats! But I didn’t take enough pictures. Go see the shows. That's David in the first 2 pics and Steven's work in the other 2.

Friese Undine’s new exhibition is slyly, hysterically, funny. Cults of historical re-enactors, cannibals and naturists nostalgically jostle elbows with historical figures who may be different than we expect. At @thomasvandykegallery, Sunset Park Brooklyn, 434 39th Street, Thu-Sun, 1-6pm. Thru Nov. 7

Gericault gets label "Adult Content."
Famously, AI systems crunch text and images based on the datasets that humans feed them. To create this work, rather than using AI, I fed myself a dataset of images of dead men in iconic European paintings. The naked and clothed male body is a complicated signifier. The images carry the content.
I’m loving this beautiful zine put out by @worcesterportraitexchange from their recent event at JMAC in MA. Exchanging portraits seems to hold out the possibility of a utopian solution to the fraught ethics of visual representation. It’s not a perfect form, but it is so inspiring. Excellent!
Third set of photos from the opening.

Thanks to everyone for coming out to the opening last night! Here’s a first batch of photos. Special thanks to Chris Quirk for these images.

Facial recognition systems use different math techniques but an interesting one, visually speaking, is Eigenfaces, first used by computer scientists in 1991 to classify faces by using a system of vector math that reduced differences in facial characteristics to allow for quicker processing.
