An old lawyer in love with new music, among other things. Snappy patter & wordplay a subspecialty. Not one of those George Wallaces you may have heard of. Occasional longer outbursts via georgewallace.substack.com. Mostly harmless. Neither mod nor rocker.

We shall not cease from exploration
And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time.

Love how Nico Muhly and Sam Amidon revisit The Only Tune every couple of years. This one at Sadler's Wells may be my favourite yet. The dancing skeletons and musicians also in skeleton outfits made the dark melody even more sinister and surreal.

The DOJ has a special closet full of these guys, know-nothings for every occasion.

In the day, when Charles Krauthammer coined "Bush Derangement Syndrome," everyone - very much including the Bushies - knew it was just a clever-clever rhetorical ploy.
Leave it to Donald J Trump to insist against all evidence that, by jingo, his personal Syndrome is the realest thing in all reality.
Apparently the lesson Brendan Carr learned from the Kimmel debacle is that he didn't actually have any consequences for abusing his power to violate the 1st Amendment, so he's just going to keep at it.

Trump & MTG sing da Beatles:

Why, tell me why, did you not treat me right?
Love has a nasty habit of disappearing overnight

I'm looking through you
where did you go?
I thought I knew you
what did I know?
You don't look different but you have changed
I'm looking through you: you're not the same

What music goes with strategic ponderation of stays and extraordinary writs?
Tonight, let it be the extraordinary Linda May Han Oh, Ambrose Akinmusire, and Tyshawn Sorey.

The wages of fighting for princesses is death.
Every single death in the Iliad is itemized and particularized. It is a defining feature of the Iliad.
Princesses, pride, friendship, honor: Death death death.

This is true, I think, except as to the small group of southern Californians who shopped at the fewer-than-a-dozen Trader Joe's - then still owned by Joe Coulombe - in 1975.
Trader Joe's *is* better today, but by a smaller margin if You Knew Them When.
(You could buy Petrus at TJ for like $5 then.)
If you transported someone from 1975 to a Trader Joe’s today they’d be staring, mouths agape, like Robin Williams looking at all the coffee.

Mustn't listen to vintage Kraftwerk while driving:
half their sonic palette is indistinguishable from your car's random alerts and direst warnings.

Got a different nostalgia for each of seven decades.
It's exhausting to be that sentimental.

New Laura Burhenn/Mynabirds music.
That's all I need to know.
YMMV, but there's no accounting, nor any need to account, for any of our tastes.

I am used to political leaders being substantially younger than I am*, but I don't know yet how I feel about the next Mayor of New York being slightly younger than my youngest child.

* We've a surfeit of political leaders older than I am.

It's a long story, but I was reached today by an old old friend, dating back to high school in the mid-'70s and subsequently a contemporary at Berkeley. He went hunting for me, because he and I attended together Bruce Springsteen's concert at the Paramount Theatre Oakland on October 31, 1975. 1/7

Marisa Tomei absolutely deserved her 'Cousin Vinny' Oscar, and it is a crime against Art and the Rule of Law that the other perfect Supporting performance in that picture wasn't even nominated.
