Nankeen Night-Heron showed up on our dam last week, which was very nice of since I got to record it in my #AussieBirdCount surveys. Doesn’t like having its photo taken, but I finally got it! #ausbirds
My children have set up a box from which to spy on the brown cuckoo-doves. The cuckoo-doves are suspicious of the giggling box but not enough to pass up the offer of seeds.
Succeeded at my Snipe hunt today ✅

Some releases are exciting and beautiful celebrations of freedom, as the animal flies/hops/runs away from us. Echidna releases are…. not like that. Safe travels little one! #wildliferehab #auswildlife
Female Scarlet Myzomela - they look so delicate. #ausbirds

This week we’ve been monitoring regent parrot breeding- look at this little cutie 😭🩵😇
A great day of birding for #OctoberBigDay - we finished with 86 species, 3 lifers for me, and a sunburn because I forgot to pack sunscreen.

Ah yes, the elegant Great Egret. So graceful. #ausbirds
Scruffy little Eastern Yellow Robin fledgling ❤️ #ausbirds
Found this cutie while gardening yesterday. A Three-toed Skink! 🦎#auswildlife #backyardwildlife
Black-necked Stork showed up at the local wetlands. Legs for daysssss #ausbirds
Hooray for migratory shorebird season starting 👏👏👏 #ausbirds
Wish I’d thought of that as a caption!
Did our spring Waterbug survey today. Please enjoy this video of the gills on this mayfly larva.
Gotcha! The Emu-wren decided to play nice today and let me take a picture. There were a pair actually, it was a great day for birding. #ausbirds #wildoz
They are a cat-sized carnivorous marsupial. Vulnerable species - seeing one in the wild is an incredible treat.
Oh these are wonderful! We don’t really have fences so I usually set my camera traps on animals trails. Mostly I get lots of brush turkeys, lyrebirds, wombats and wallabies. Quoll has been the bucket list animal!
The way they move is just amazing.
We've lived on this property for 13 years and I've been trying to catch a quoll on my trail cams basically since we moved in. Never seen one. But today one turned up and tried to break into the (fortunately secure) aviary. This is the most exciting thing ever. #wildoz #ausmammals
It started pouring with rain on our walk yesterday. Anyway fun fact turns out pelicans drink rainwater by just sitting there with their bills open. They even moved to align themselves with the direction the rain was coming in. So that's cool. #ausbirds #wildoz #pelican
A Wedge-tailed Eagle showed up at the wetlands yesterday. The resident pair of Black-shouldered Kites were very unhappy about it. #ausbirds #wildoz
Tawny frogmouth would be my guess too.
Yeah when I spotted this one I saw a dozen males but only two females, I do wonder how many more females were present but hiding too well for me to see.
He does! Though personally I think a better name could have been chosen, since you don't see the red rump from most angles. (And the poor female gets saddled with a name for a feature she doesn't have.)
It’s amazing well these little guys camouflage in the grass. (Red-rumped Parrot) #ausbirds #wildoz
